When I was in Africa a friend of mine told me that she could never take here eyes of her children even for a second or they would be gone. I'm sending this to the forum, not because I want to start any kind of discussion but because there are so many of you that could help get Madeleine's image and story to parts of the world that may be difficult to reach. Praia Da Luz is chosen as a holiday resort because it is reputed to be a safe place to take children – aren't many of us looking for this in New Zealand?
The publicity this appeal has received is unprecedented and no-one knows if it will bring results but wouldn't it be wonderful if it did because perhaps, just maybe, it could be repeated for other missing children and wouldn't that be an uplifting phenomenon in the world we live in.
Madeleine McCann (Age 4) was abducted from Praia Da Luz, Portugal on 3rd May and may have been sighted in Marrakech, Morocco.
Marie Olli, 45, said “a sad blonde girl was standing on her own in a petrol station in Marrakesh, then a man came over and she asked him: Can I see Mummy soon?”
“I am very sure it was Madeleine. I walked into the petrol station and saw the little girl standing there. She looked sad. When the man saw me looking at them he turned away, so I couldn't see his face.”
Marrakech can be easily reached in less than a day from the Algarve via Tarifa in southern Spain. There, two ferries an hour make the trip to Tangier, Morocco, across the Strait of Gibraltar.
Unfortunately, Marie was unaware of Madeleine's disappearance until she returned home to Fuengirola in Spain after the May 9 sighting, and saw TV coverage of her disappearance. Police are trying to confirm this latest report using CCTV footage.
