My husband and I (I sound like the queen!) are looking into moving to NZ. I am almost qualified as an adult nurse (finish course July 2005) and husband is a commercial photographer (does products, PR, advertising, conferences and weddings). Any advice on nursing in NZ or working as a photographer in NZ would be very welcome.
Thanks. Jayne

dont know about photography but regarding nurses they may want one years post registration experience. You wont find any difficulty in finding work and once qualified will need to register with the NZ nursing council. this can take about 3 months. Once you have this you can apply for jobs.

Hi yes you can download the forms from their website. You will need references and the dates you started your training as well as a cv. the website is www.nursingcouncil.org.nz It can take some time to gather all the info that you need. May be an idea to e.mail them to ask whether you need experience first when qualified. Hope this helps and let us know how you get on. best of luck.

The Council were pretty good when my wife applied and at the moment I believe that registration is for life (according to an employment agency), with upkeep kept up to date by Practising Certificates.
If you can get registered now it will help with speeding job offers and start dates.

My wife is nearly qualified as a nurse (in fact I am still nursing my bad head after celebrating her exam success, 76% last night!) :cheers :cheers
I e-mailed the nursing council several times, they eventually replied stating that they would send the forms and also that they required 3-6 months post registration experience, although he did say that there were no hard and fast rules.
Hope this helps

Hi Jayne
I am a Registered Nurse here in NZ. You will find a job no problem - desperately short of nurses here. But have to say, the pay is dire - expect to start your nursing career on approx $14 an hour - I have worked with many newly qualified nurses who are planning to travel to Oz or Europe for better paid jobs, as they just can't afford to live on such a poor salary in NZ. These nurses are qualifying with a BA degree and they are poor as church mice. Single nurses have no chance of a decent standard of living.
Sorry to be gloomy but it is a fact - I just didn't appreciate just how bad it would be working as a nurse in NZ until I got here. I have been qualified for 20 years and earn a" good wage" - above the average - but I do not enjoy the standard of living I had in the UK...
