I'm sure Aus and NZ are similar, so wondering, would a history of depression cause a spousal visa app to be rejected do you think?

They almost always grant visas for partnership (and I'm talking about NZ here).

Whether you would need a specialist's report depends on things like the severity, whether it's current or in the past, whether you're able to work, whether there were any suicide attempts/compulsory treatment orders.

I think either way it's likely to be approved eventually, but if it's severe it may be something of a process.

thanks for that anna. nothing ever severe...just maintenance meds. looking through all this stuff is making me head swim. i guess the initial look at everything one must do for this probably does that to everyone though;)

thanks again,

My oldest daughter takes maintenance meds for depression, and currently, all NZIS medical review of our ITA required is an additional letter from GP stating outlook and necessity of current treatment. Didn't seem to be a big deal--just formality. We'll see soon, though, if it passes.

thanks again for that. it's the only thing been worrying me about the whole process.
