Not sure if this belongs here, but wondering for those of you who've had to get police checks from the UK for any visas, about how long did that take?

cheers

The maximum time for response is 40 days from submission, so it should be no longer than that.

It doesn't matter - they all go to one central processing office anyway, so you can apply through any force. Essex have an online application if you have a UK bank account, which makes it easy. Or just phone or write to the disclosure office of any police force.

Can someone also please confirm that this is the correct form for the UK, if you choose to mail it in:

Yes that is the one to use.

Must check when mine was sent as I am sure it was more than 40 days ago and can't remember getting anything (except the acknowledgement) back.

One more question sorry---do you just tick the box re: 'require info held on the police natl computer...'

no details in the section below?

Yes you are right, just a tick in the box and leave the rest blank.

I checked my file last night, it is 35 days since I applied and not heard anything yet, so looks like they are pushing it close to the limit of 40 days.

speckythecky - When you recieved you proof of identity back, it should have explained what to do if you do not receive it by a certain date.

From what I remember they won't talk to you about it before that date.

But, if you leave it much longer than the date listed then you will need to re-apply again so it would advise you to check the date (of course I'm sure that you already know this so just a reminder :) ).

Our UK police check landed back on our doormat exactly 40 calendar days after the date on the receipt of payment that we received.

Hope that helps
