Hi all,
We seem to be stuck in the midle of no man's land at the moment.
Our original plan was to have a job offer, submit EOI, cross fingers for ITA, and wait patiently for Blue stickers....
OH's reccie went well, had interview and got said job offer!
After pressing them for written confirmation, we were told that they had changed their minds due to projected funds being short.:wah
Back to square one.
We want to be in NZ at the end of Sept, do we just submit the EOI with the points we have
(110)? Or go down the Visa/permit route, and apply once in NZ (preferably when we have secured a job offer)?
It's all a bit mind boggling at the moment!!!!! And it's driving us both mad.
Is it worth talking to someone at NZIS?
Helppppppppppp.......x

Bad luck on the withdrawl of the job offer. OH must be gutted. EOI of 110 points without job offer will struggle to crawl out of the pool unless the lowering of the point requirement comes off. It looks like you may need to go for visitors permit and get job once in NZ, unless you can somehow get another job offer from uk.

On the two occasions we have emailed NZIS they had always been helpful and got back same day. Their replies were to the point but good none the less. I think if you had one offer you would get another.
I can't really help with the route to go but I was under the impression that you can't get a work visa without a job. I may be wrong though, have only been on this roller coaster for 4 months! I would be inclined to submit EOI and keep applying for jobs?!;) Good luck

You could get your police check done and your medicals done and keep looking for jobs while you're in the UK. Once you find one you could apply for a work visa (which is at most a matter of weeks if you've already got the medicals and police stuff sorted out) and head off to NZ once you get it.
Alternatively you could get the police/medicals done and head off to New Zealand, look for a job while there, then apply for your work permit once you've got an offer. It may take up to 60 days to get the permit in NZ. I believe you as a brit are allowed 6 months visitors visa initially but can extend it up to 9 months if you need to (if still looking for a job). You'd have to have funds to keep you afloat for that time period without a job though.
Correct me anyone if I'm wrong! :)

The way I understand it is this:
You have to have a work permit to work in New Zealand.
If you apply from NZ you apply for a Work Permit.
If you apply from overseas you apply for a work visa and then when you arrive at the airport in NZ they stamp your passport with a work permit (that's what I was told on the phone at least).
If you're in NZ and have only the permit (not visa) and you want to travel in and out of the country and retain your working rights you have to also apply for the work visa before you leave NZ for travel.

hi,
id be tempted to put in EOI anyway, at least its moving forward.
that way if you get a job offer you can just fax immigration and they will take you out of pool.
Also if you are in the pool then you can let employers know that you are serious and have an application in. As lots of them probably worry how long it can take to go through the process.
I was talking to a guy from immigration at work last week and he said that they werent fillling the quota at 140 plus at the minute so reduce it incrementally 139, 138 and so on so depends how low they get on how many applications they get.. so worth a try.
we managed to get a job offer from UK by phone interview...
I know the council in auckland will do phone interviews. and are accredited employers. also the jobs market in auckland is very good at the minute with lots of vacancies...try these sites...trade me (they have a good jobs section) and seek.co.nz
good luck hope it works out for you.
