I think we may have had an information overload!!
Can anyone tell me how they went about getting their electrical registration.
Confused about whether OH applies to the EWRB from over here (UK), or if you need to wait until you get to NZ? OH has no job offer yet, so this suggests we wait until were there (ever the optomist!!......), but then again, other info we've had suggest he needs it asap.....
Also, there's an electrical safety course currently running at NZ Hse, hubby has been offered a place - but we are not sure if it's a bit early for him to attend / due to no job offer whether, at present, it'll be relevan. Any thoughts??
please help!!:roll

I am also an electrician and I have been approved for registration as an electrician and and am exempt from from theory course work and examination.
This allows you to get a provisional licence
But this basically means is that you have to send all your certificates and experience over and they will decide whether you meet there standards.
Once you arrive in new zealand you then have to undertake the course work exam which take place in june and november at various polytechnics around nz. You also need to have first aid course etc.
Recieved our ITA today hope to be there late 2008.

I am in NZ now job hunting, i took the safety course etc in london too, it is worth doing if you plan on getting here and working within 2 years of the course as the cert for that course lasts 2 years before need to refresh it. Plus is you go on the course Nick Chandler is a great guy and very helpful and informative regards the process and what to do next etc.
I am at the stage of sending my certs and experience off to EWRB from here within UK, in hinesight i wish i had got it done from UK so if you got the time i would say do it now. I struggling a bit as proving 10years experience is difficult when half your old employers either no longer exist or in case of 2 just ignored and not replied to letters, so if anyone has any ideas here!?
As soon as i can get the Nod from EWRB, i shall have a provisional i hope. Still job hunting at moment, but many employers cautious without a license :(
PM if you want discuss any more electrician discussions..

I managed to obtain a job offer in Nz and only got visas with written proof from ewrb sent to immigration noting that i would be suitable to obtain a provisional lisence once i arrived in nz.
I had to send work exp from something like the last four years, it had to be a "detailed" account of work i had done and i found them to be extremely picky over this!!!
Anyway we arrived in nz in the middle of may, i sat the first aid/cpr course a week or so after this and have submitted all the paper work required but i still havent got the lisence. I think they have to put everything in front of the board and they only meet something like once a month, a bit of a drag really!!
Hope this helps, any other ?? feel free to pm me

You have go to the a justice of the peace, to produce a legal document certifiying your work history statement. A staturtory Decloration?
The regulations exam is very hard, and the stage three practical assement will take a full week, its basically the year three apprentice practical exam.
There is quite a lot of theory in the regs exam as well.
I have recently become registered and i am still on crap money so I have given in my notice and am starting up on my own.
You have to work very hard hear to make very little money if you are employed
If you have any other questions reguarding registration I would be pleased to help
