I have just been looking on the website for the police force and how to obtain police checks. According to the MET they do not issue clearance certificates or good conduct certificates - what certificates have others got? The only one they suggest is a police reply under the subject access provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998. Is this acceptable?

Use your local forces application form. I think the met's one is this one.
http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/forms/3019b.pdf
All it does is check the police national computer to say you don't have any convictions and does say it's not a certificate of good character.
They accepted mine at NZIS though, mine just says no convictions, nothing recorded this is not a certificate of good character...

Yes the data protection form is the one that you need.
