Have just got home from dropping OH off at the office (yes, despite it being a month since the car's shipping container arrived at the port, we still don't have our hands on it.. don't even get me started...)

Anyway, when I got back, someone has attached a large golden homes sign to the outside of my fence around our property, which relates to a house being built down a side street next to us.

Now I appreciate its attached to the side which faces the road and not inwards towards the house, but unless there are any strange laws/regulations, its still my fence, and if I were in the UK, no one could attach anything to it without my permission.

Is it the same here ?, or do people have the right to put up signs etc... It seems unlikely, but thought I'd better check before I got on the phone in cross mode!

i'd check with the councils planning department as they have guidlines on signs, policies etc, i dont think you can just put up a new one anyway regardless of whos fence it is..

id like to think that if it is your fence then you should have the final say on wether it can have a sign on it or not. they should be able to tellyou that too.

Pip. If I were you, I would check with the local council office to establish wether or not you do in fact own the fence. We thought that all fences surrounding our property would be our responsibilty, but were told by the council that some are actually shared with neighbours.

Pip - I can't believe you still haven't got your car - I feel wound up on your behalf! Mind you, we sent 5 boxes ahead of our main container in January and we still haven't got them thanks to the TOTAL INCOMPETENCY of New Zealand Van Lines. Our boxes have been sat in their depot since mid-March, but did they let us know? NO!!!
