We are going back to the UK on 1st June and I will not be coming back till early October.
What I would like to do is instead of coming back with a suitcase I want to bring my Keyboard in the luggage hold. Singapore Air seem very vague on whether I will be charged extra or not. They say they can't tell me until I turn up with the Keyboard.I have a proper flight case for it and miss playing it so much that I thought the best way would be to bring it with me in October as our main container will not be over until April 08 at the earliest. Has anyone bought a keyboard or similar large instrument over with them on the flight.Any info appreciated

Not sure this is much help but mum is bringing as PS3 in her hand luggage. She has been told that even though they are flying business class it must still weigh under 7kg.
When I first started reading this I wondered why you were wanting to bring part of your computer with you! :roll

Hi Dave
We didn't bring a musical instrument with us, but I had an umbrella (that's a different story :D ) and we just put it in the fragile compartment and that was fine and came through unscathed.
I would imagine though any cost depends on the weight etc., so good luck.
Hope that you're both well and see you soon.

Dave and Caroline: we might have space for your keyboard in our container. We're shipping our stuff early September, hopefully. PM me if you're interested.

Having just arrived back in NZ with my keyboard I thought I would let you know that it went fine.
I went with Singapore Air who were really helpful in the end.
When I arrived at Heathrow, They put fragile stickers on it and then it was put in a special trailer as it could not go on the normal baggage conveyor. They then said that I would have to open it up so they could inspect it.So I got checked through security via first class which took all of 2 minutes, instead of the usual 2 hours. Then I was taken to a room so I could open it up for them.
. The security officer said it was a good job I was not going via any American terminal as they have a habit of destroying keyboards. He said only last week Los Angeles blew up someones keyboard as it proved inconclusive on the xray machine. So everyone be aware. If you have a keyboard etc and do not want it blown up avoid LA.( Although you should be alright if you remain in transit)
Anyway, they were happy with it and it was even brought out to me at
Auckland on a truck so that it did not get damaged on the conveyor
All the best

I know nothing of keyboards other than the types with QWERTY across the top, but would it not be possibe to beg, borrow or even rent one temporarily and save all the hassle?
Just a thought. Ignore me if I'm being a mentalist.

Good idea but it wouldn't be the same. I have all my music programmed on it and I know all its quirks etc. Now its over here its staying here and I feel more at home with my own board. Most musicians will usually become attached to their own instrument.Well I have my first old peoples home to play to on Friday and the matron said make as much noise as you like as most of them are deaf. They need to be with my playing.
