Hi All,

Had to tell Mum this weekend that we have a date to go , subject to medicals.

My Mum is 89, but in good health and sharp as a tack upstairs :laugh

She knew that we were going but not when.

When we got there, it was not good as her new addition to the household Tinkerbell the cat had legged it 36 hours before, not a good omen, so we had to give it a while whilst we did all the reasureing noises that she'd find her way back and as there had been sightings in the villages she'd not gone too far.

So in at the deep end and told here we had a date and after the initial tears she was fine an absolute star and wanting to know everything about the job Clare has, where we going to live, rent or buy etc etc.

She said the worst bit was once we'd told her our intentions it was the uncertainty of our leaving date but know she is well chilled and we felt so relieved because rather than pussy footing around the subject we could talk openly and she soon picked on our enthusiasm :nice1

To round the evening off at Mum's behest Clare had one last look out for the cat and lo and behold a very soggy moggy emerged from the hedge and was reunited with Mum :clap

So i guess if there is a moral to our story it is be up front and go for it, we all hate being kept in the dark.

On Sunday we headed for home but on the way caught up with the Belmont Babes, which was great, to be aable to share our dreams and experiences of the process so far and to meet fellow forumites :cheers

Yes it was lovely to share a common goal over a coffee. The next coffee and cake will be at yours on the other side of the world. Clare, thanks for emailing your brother, we have sent a reply. What a helpful chap. He sounds as nice as you.
:clap

Bull by the horns, always the best way I find. Having said that my mother-in-laws horns are more than a little formiddable. If I can brave those then you lot can do anything.

Honestly, the 'dragon' description often laid on the stereotypical mother-in-law would be a compliment in this case.

Cripes, I hope she never gets a computer and comes across this post, I'll be dog meat in no time!

Ben and Clare

We are soooo pleased that it went well for you both. You're mum sounds cool and glad that she took it well. My mum and dad will be cool when we tell them....but Rach is not looking forward to telling hers when we finally make the decision to go:(

Like you say though, be up front and honest.....and with everything crossed, hopefully it will work out:nice1

All the Best

We started mentioning that we were looking into emigrating 3 years before we actually did so that our families could get used to the idea. i think you've got nothing to lose by telling them even if you don't end up going. if you decide not to go then they'll be happy but it won't be such a shock if you do.
