Hi all,

I have been reading for a while and decided to introduce myself. I notice that most of you on here are from the UK, but I am sure that you went or are going throught the same anxiety that I am.

My OH and I decided last year that we wanted to emmigrate and NZ was the 1st choice as we have family there. We have a 4 year old boy and SA is not the best place to be bringing up kids...not the best place for adults either right now. I started sending out his CV and received a job offer 2 months ago for a good job in South Auckland. We have since sold our house and applied for a passport for our boy and will sort out medicals and the visa application as soon as that comes through. We have decided to apply for a work visa and not PR as I dont want there to be any delays in us leaving here and I know that our chances of getting PR are going to be much better once we have worked there for a year.

Thanks to all the guys for wonderful advice. It's so weird to know so much about a place without having been there before, but I definitely think I have fallen in love with New Zealand already. I know it wont be a bed of roses and I am not expecting it to...but I am quite sure that it will a 200% improvement on SA:yes

I know what you mean....I know the UK is not as bad as SA, but we are thinking that NZ will be 200% better than the UK! Even if it is 10% better, the move will be worth it!:laugh

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your move:nice1

Cheers

Hi there from another South Africa - Jo'burg - Midrand

Well we are on our way, flights booked for 10 August 2007, and now the big panic is starting to set in.

Spending 4 days in Singapore and then on to Auckland to start a 3 week tour around NZ and decide where we want to settle. Crazy but me and wife have about 6 job offers between us, all spread out from Hamilton, Nelson, wellington, Christchurch, so we doing interviews end August and beginning September to start working by October. Both of are in IT and neither have any degree's. compared to the job market here, well need i say more !!!!

One very big adventure !!!!!!

Hi to all of you....

It sounds really exciting. We didnt have a choice on where to settle as my OH received an offer from Auckland. There seems to be tons of info on this site and I am trying to absorb it all.

We have more or less wrapped everything up on this side and should leave by the end of August or early September at the latest.
