Hello all,
I have a very specific scenario that I need help with. I have accepted a job offer from an accredited employer, contingent on obtaining a 2 year WTR (Talent) visa. My desire is to go to NZ to begin settling in (as a temporary visitor from USA), finish collecting supporting documents and applying from within NZ.

The HR lady at my new company assisting me has suggested that I would not be a "genuine visitor" entering NZ knowing I will be applying for a work visa shortly, and therefore does not advise trying to. The NZIS website is not terribly helpful in this matter, and it seems to me that unless there are psychic "intent inspectors" at the point of entry, and I have return air tickets, it would not be an issue? Has anyone been in this scenario, or can offer advice? Obviously I wouldn't do anything illegal or jeopardize my visa status, but is it common practice to enter the country this way? If I am not working in NZ while waiting for documents and visa, there is really no intent to deceive, and the NZIS website only states that a visitor "cannot undertake employment". Help!
