These reasons:
"New Zealanders are reaping a geo-political dividend from 30 years of largely bi-partisan foreign policy. That policy has kept us safe, inconsequential, honest and fair, unpretentious and a non-belligerent developed (even if junior) first world country"
are exactly why we chose NZ.

Very interesting post and Charles, I think, has hit the nail on the head. He is right that many UK-NZ migrants move without sufficient knowledge of the lifestyle that NZ can offer: That is more than evident from reading the numerous posts on this forum. We are most certainly entering in to our move with our eyes wide open:yes This forum is largely responsible for making us see the 'truth' behind emmigrating to a new country.
SamB, I echo your feelings entrirely. Athough we are not looking at moving for a couple of years, we too have made the choice for exactly the same reasons. We are not expecting to live like kings, but are looking for a good quality of life, in relatively peaceful, friendly and magnificant surroundings.
We really cannot wait.....:raebanana

And that is what you'll get as long as you understand that this is another country and it's people are different from your average Joe from Middlesex, but that is the whole point, that is the attraction.
Good luck Liam and Rach

We are actually looking at Cambridge as one of our destinations! I was born in Cambridge in the UK, so thought it quite strange how we fell in love with the place on our last visit to NZ! Thanks for the advice....
