wow.. I do love it though! Dunedin is a bit far to commute to Christchurch through.. am intrigued to see the peacock roaming in the grounds (see pic 19) - I didn't even know there were peacocks in New Zealand!

Don't think our estate agent liked us, everyone else I know got welcome hampers/presents/picnic kits! - we got nothing.. and it was Bayleys and a not insubstancial amount!

I hate it when agents mis price to get interest as well.

It's happened this week for us when we put in an offer to find the vendor wanted $100k plus than offer :(

Have to say once I pass the exams going to be holding myself as an ethical salesperson that won't be underhand, not easy but we live in a small place where things get around quickly if you're not :)

I'm not easily offended !!!

just as well I guess :laugh I passed my UNITEC exam last week - actually quite difficult , so I'm all fresh & naieve at the moment :p . I too have to be as open & honest as I can as Rangiora has only about 11000 people - if your are a pratt - word will get about VERY quickly - the jungle drums certantly can beat around here .

I've joined the Ray white group & will be working at the Rangiora office - I was keen to work as close to home as possible .

So its beans on toast & 100 exciting mince meals untill I sell anything now :(

ohh yes - silly me - well thats what you get when you've been here a year - its official - I no longer look at stuff on the £ perspective!
I didn't even notice the £ sign until you pointed it out....sorry!

BUT as to them telling PORKIES - I stand my ground - I have yet to meet one who has been 100% truthful, BUT Ray White I must say seemed the most objective, as a RENTAL agent they were 100% great!

SO Good luck to both of you who are starting on the Selling gig - Keep your intergrity, and Dont forget - DON'T say that the House can get Broadband - Unless its 100% accurate.

when my work life is hindered by it and I can't use the internet as Telecom and the others LOVE to advertise the internet - then YES!

I really only want a good connection for seeing rach and cole, if they were here - I doubt I would be that bothered!

I would be off doing something more interesting - such as having my first motorbike lesson.....

or laying on my path staring at the moon with a huge halo around it and thousands of stars....;)

But it does get me the way that the real estate agents smooth talk and don't actually give any useful information..... When I told them that agents in the UK actually MEASURE each room, they were amazed:laugh (they also said this place had insulation in the walls - Hog Wash!)

but hey, I recon if a few more honest people take up the profession then it may get a bit better;)

the market is the way it is due to the internet that allowed the agents to monopolise a small market like NZ.

I wouldn't rely on a real estate agent for this information in the same way you wouldn't take their advice on knocking down walls. Technically, if a house has a phone line it 'can' (now or in the future) have broadband (provided the infrastructure at the exchange is in place). It can also be the case that if there is a waiting list in an area, the house's broadband connection may transfer to a neighbouring house.

It's more reassuring to call Telecom and check with them if the infrastructure is in place & spare connections are available.

David.

Although I think coming from the UK one might not realise just how patchy broadband is here and so it would seem reasonable to just check with the agent. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't rely on the vendor or agent for such information.

Our land is close to the rural school that has broadband and we thought it likely we would get it. We had that confirmed by telecom last month. Phew!

On this subject... the government wants to reform the Real Estate Agents Act. The Public Consultation Document is actually fairly interesting if you're interested in the real estate industry. (Yes, I spent my Friday evening reading it :o ). Public submissions close July 10. People obviously feel quite strongly about this so go here
http://www.justice.govt.nz/pubs/reports/2007/real-estate/index.html
and have your say.
