Hi, I got a question here that I don't seem to find in the topics.

I'll be leaving for Wellington in October, and since I don't qualify as a skilled migrant, I am planning to take the job offer + work visa route.
I'm a web designer/web developer, and if I'm correct, this is not on the shortage lists, so my future employer will have to prove that there are no locals available for my job. How does an employer do that? Are they willing to do it, or should I prepare myself for turndowns because hiring me would not be so simple?
Any advice is appreciated.

They have to prove that they have advertised locally/nationally(in some cases) by way of Newspapers, the net, etc. Once this has been established then a 6 week market check is done before the issuing of the visa.

Mine was not on the list, so they did as Kim said and I got my work visa straight away. There is a shortage of good experienced web designers look on Seek and apply.Make sure you have sent them some of your worrk on PDF and drop large company names that they may recognise. Or any super dupa achievements.

Dept of conservation still have not filled their role yet, as far as I know. I have left work (recruitment )now so can not help.

Beyond recruitment in Wellington deal with web/graphic roles

... I'm a web designer/web developer ...

If you're a web developer then surely you're "Systems Development Staff", or even a "Programmer"? Aren't you? Huh? ;)

Thanks, everyone.

Angela, I'll knock on their door for sure once I get there.

Chiba, I have no idea how strict they are at the immigration. Sure my work is mainly about writing codes but if they look at it closely, it's neither programming nor system development. So I've got no clue whether my skills qualify.
