Hi All,

My husband is a very well controlled type 1 diabetic, and is about to go through the medical for a residents visa under the partnership category in the UK.
I would really appreciate if anyone has any experience of whether diabetes is considered to be a problem? Also, if anyone has been through the residency process with type 1, and was sent to the medical review panel, can you let me know the kind of extra information they requested?
Any information would be greatly appreciated, as we are both a bit worried that he will not be approved.
Thanks for your help,
Kate

Kate,

If you look about half way down you will see a post about diabetes medical referred. It might answer some of you questions. My wife is a type 1 diabetic and our application is currently away at the medical board. I am hoping to have an answer this month, but have waited about 3 months now. Will let you know if and when I get an answer. I am applying for PR, but the diabetes has been a problem for us and more than certainly will be referred to the medical panel. I am no expert, but you will find that people have had visa's approved, so I am quietly confident that we will get approved.

Cheers

Hi, thought I would just post a quick reply on this thread. Our residence application has just been returned from the medical assessor in New Zealand and we received approval in principal. So anybody else with diabetes don't be too concerned as we have been approved, it just took a bit longer than normal. Many thanks to all that posted on here as it helped put our mind at rest whilst we waited for the results. Just got to get the flights booked now as sold house and currently in storage. Looking to leave for New Zealand in September.

Cheers
