Hi

I shall be arriving in NZ to look for work (PhD Theoretical Physics if you know of anything) in July. As I intend to travel both islands to seek employers before Amber and my two sons arrive Sept/Oct. I need flexible accomodation time wise. Apart from motels, hotels are b&bs readily available and if so roughly what fees are charged?

I have read lots about people just going to NZ finding a job and staying. When you've a specialist training such as mine, is it realistic to think opportunities exist?

the other option would be to look at the network of BBH hostels. www.bbh.co.nz these are spread throughout NZ, all are privately owned so are different and generally the standard of accommodation is high. A private room with shared facilities would cost about $50 - $60, and a bit more if you were looking for en-suite. If you were to sleep in a shared room or dorm the cost would be around $20 -$25.

Gosh what an exciting job. Not sure where you are gong to start looking. What sort of places have you worked in the past to give us some ideas as to where you might fit?

Then we may be able to give types of companies or government establishments.

Congrats on the new job.

I've worked as a researcher at the University of Essex, although I did supervise students in lab work. I had to develope a mathematical model to simulate semiconductor lasers for telecommunications. The maths model I developed I then wrote code for to help improve the dynamic performance of lasers.

So I'm looking at Uni's (research and lectureships) and industrial R&D or maths modelling in short. Hope that helps on my work background.
