HI ALL
is there anybody on the forum in NZ who has set up there own business from scratch, not bought one ready made but built one from nothing except an idea.
If so ,how hard did you find it? was it expensive? where do you start?

Helo Cardy,

The process to set up a business would depend a little on the type of business you want to set up.

Legal costs and processes to set up a business are fairly simple and not expensive compared to most other countries.

I would suggest that it will almost always be harder than expected and that it will often take longer than expected to grow the business.

Do you have a type of business in mind?

Hi stevie
No jobs ok i,m thinking of doing the other business in my spare time ,i would only have a delivery of my stock once every 5 or 6 weeks (40 ft container):D and i could deal with it on my 2 days off or evenings.
Just dont want someone else raking it in from my idea.

Ooh, intriguing. We are considering something along the run your own business lines, but have failed to come up with a good idea yet. Also we don't have much cash, so signs are not good.

Will have to get a proper job in the meantime in an attempt to swell the minimal coffers.

Boo.

Darn that Mitre 10! I'll have to come up with another cunning idea.

I'm not sure if you spotted it but I started a Self Employed thread recently:

www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11032

It might have some relevant info for you.

I also found the tax office to be surprisingly helpful and I used their automated information service to order quite a few leaflets from them. You've probably already seen this but they also have info about starting a business:

www.ird.govt.nz/yoursituation-bus/starting

If you are thinking of starting a Trade Me business, then this book has some useful starting points:

www.successsecrets.co.nz

Good Luck with it all!

Cheers

Tia
