Hi I have not been able to get on the forum but am back now. I came over to Hawkes Bay back in oct 05 and have never looked back since.
Life is good. However I have had my ups and downs.
I seemed to have fitted in to the local community very well and have loads of friends.
Am just about to open a boarding cattery here and started showing cats had never been to a cat show before I came here. I now have the runner up best siamese neuter spey kitten in NZ and have made loads of friends at the cat shows.
Have just gone part-time at work so I can devote more time to the fur family and the boarding cattery. I had a 36sq metre unit shifted onto the section which I have had built to my specifications and in accordance to the NZ boarding kennel and cattery associations specs cant wait for it to be up and running. The smaller cottage on my section is going to be used as part of the cattery as a reception and will be using the kitchen and bathroom for food prep and washing etc.
Have not been impressed with some of the standards here regarding catteries but then again I am very fussy with my fur family and what they would want!
Had my first experience of ACC back in feb when I badly injured my knee and couldnt walk for a couple of months. Red my hound ran into me at full speed when we were playing ball and knocked me flying and I damaged my cartiledge, bruised the bone and damaged my ligaments.
One thing about the friends I have they have been brilliant and was never short of help.
Bessie my trailhound passed away very suddenly in january which put me on a downer and also Spice died of heart failure a few weeks ago. If thats not all I also lost miw-sher whom got knocked down by a car after being here only 6 weeks and Skye passed away with kidney failure last march. All of them came with me to NZ and I only have Setau and Red left out of all my original fur family. This has been a real downer for me but they all had a better life here and more space and thease things would of proberly happend in the UK anyway.
I have done no end of improvements to the cottage. had a solar water heater installed which is brilliant and has cut my electric bill down by over $20 a month. also got the place insulated and a heat pump installed which is fantastic. Last winter was pretty cold with just the log burner and no installation.
Love growing my own veggies on the section and also making chutneys one thing I would never of done in the UK!
Have not felt any home sickness since I have been here and not felt loney at all it was a big decision to come on my own but my social life is so busy on days off there is always someone popping by or an invitation to go to friends etc.
Am off to Masterton tomorrow to visit a friend and go on down to Wellington for the day so its going to be an early start.
Got a week off work from wed so hopefully will be able to slow down a little before next weekend which will be spent at the National cat show being held in Hawkes Bay.
I have had some new additions to the fur family. Brought a English shorthaired pointer recently whom has settled in very well and Red loves her. Have also adopted 4 rescue cats from the SPCA. One of which had been re homed twice from there and returned to them as she had anger problems! I took her on as she got in the carrier when I went to collect another cat from there. I figured that she had choosen me so brought her home. She was a little madam but is very settled and happy now and it just took a bit of time and patience to sort her out.
