Couldn't help doing a little calculation - each voter is casting votes for 2.03 photos on average. (Too much time on my hands today!)

It's hard to figure out how many I should vote for. I like them all - and I’m able to vote for them all. But there's not much point in that. Or I could pick my absolute favourite, but there's little to choose between it and others I'd like to vote for, for different reasons. Or maybe I should pick my top 3? Choices, choices................

These are all nice pictures. The current leader, "Kite Festival," is beautiful. Nonetheless, I couldn't vote for it. They don't have kite festivals every day, do they?

All the pictures were great. The one that was a "favourite" for me was the
Dairy in Waikanae (Kapiti Coast). I remember this dairy well as Waikanae was my home town before moving to the States. We are planning on settling on the Kapiti Coast (preferably Waikanae) when we return to New Zealand permanently later this year.

Hi Keith,
I took the kite picture, I'm glad you liked it.
Yes I agree the Kite festival is not an everyday thing (which is why I didn't vote for it), I didn't really know what to enter but wanted to take part.

The two I voted for were the dairy and Kauri tree-carving, as I think these fit the category best. The dairy picture in particular is really good, not only lovely to look at but also enigmatic of many everyday NZ things (rusty tin roof, cyclist wearing a helmet, 'Mac's Pies', tip-top ice cream etc).

Cheers,
John

Thanks Mexican in NZ, that is our little girl up the tree, she loves climbing.

P.s. the dairy picture is my favourite, both me and J think it is brilliant.

Hey, thanks on the tree carving, that was us! Funny thing is, I voted for your kite pic, both because of the vivid image and because kite flying just screams "idyllic family outing". I also voted for Sam's little girl, it's a great photo and tree climbing really should be an everyday thing. Of course, I also voted for mine 'cause I love rooting for the underdog!:D

Sam, I think we must get you guys a great house :laugh :

My favorite picture as "a picture": girl in native trees (the extra contrast and vivid colours put extra drama into it, where mostly extra contrast makes a picture worse)
My favorite picture to the subject: dairyhouse, though it's just a building, the picture is alive.

I like the last picture too, but didn't vote for it. I'm also an editor/photographer of a magazine (:o ) and responsable for the front-page/cover...: people always love colourfull things in the blue sky, whether it's balloons, kites or whatever. It's not a bad picture, it just wasn't a surprise.

They don't have kite festivals every day but it's still representative of everyday life in NZ. In Auck. it wasn't uncommon to see people flying kites at the beach or the Domain on a windy day. It's also not uncommon to have free public events.
