WE have just returned from a holiday in NZ to make up our minds for definite and yes, we applied while we were there and got a reply within the week. We came home yesterday via LA for 10 days and now another letter has gone to my son in NZ asking for more details from a cadiologist and vascular surgeon as I have had a 5 heartbypass and a carotid artery surgery. Has anyone heard of this and will this stop us from qualifying? As far as we know everything is okay medically now but I must admit the md who examined us said that they may want this. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced it and knows how to go about it

Hiya,
Dont worry too much about it, they will always ask for details of any health issues and as long as ur ok now it will sort itself out. You may have to chase up the surgeon/consultant and give them a gentle nudge for the info however. My son had some minor health issues when he was an infant which I mentioned at the medical (silly me :roll ) as it was 2yrs ago and there is nothin wrong with him now I was asked to get some letters from my GP confirming his good health now (these cost me extra incidentally!!). Also I have a friend who has just emigrated who sufered a stroke and was found to have problems with her heart (she is only late 30's) she had heart surgery and had to learn to walk and talk again. She had to have an ulrtasound scan and letters from her consultant confirming all was now well and she arrived a month ago.

Basically NZ dont want extra strain on their health service so just want to know that ur now fit and healthy.

Good luck and keep us posted wont u?

The medical conditions I've heard that some had trouble with were a chronic disease and/or longterm future dependence on expensive medication - things that indicate that you'll probably cost the health system money for the rest of your life. For health issues that are not ongoing and where you're now recovered, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue. That's just from what I've heard from a few people who've had difficulties.

Best of luck to you.

Graham had the interviews with the cardiologist (and a stress test) and the vascular surgeon also and they both gave a good report and said that there were no problems and that there were no more surgerys imminent for him in the next 5-10 years (that is what they asked for) We sent the reports off to Hamilton and they got them 3 weeks ago. Will they deal with it over there as we applied there or will they transfer everything to London now that we are home.
