We got married as tourist in Wellington 2 years ago before we planned to move here.
It was easy just remember your passports & birth certificates. If you google wedding new zealand you get planning companies that have a list of what you have to do before hand. Just don't pick Welly as the weather is unpredicatable. Do not use a homestay or bach as your venue as ours looked nothing like its picture on the web, very dissappointing.
We found a list of celebrants ours was lovely she was in her 80's slipped on a rock and hurt her head but still married us with blood pouring out of her head. She need stiches bless her.
You write your own words here and can get married just about any where you like.
When you apply you have to tell them the actual wedding location for the licence.
Got our full licence a couple of days later so it does not take long, but you need to be near an office for that.
Got a great chocolate wedding cake to die for.

scrummy cake, bet there weren't any leftovers :laugh
We are here because we were looking for somewhere to get married, and there are some amazingly stunning places here, (which we found on a NZ wedding site) and I said to Keith, "it looks so beautiful, why don't we just go one way" - to which he replied "OK" and here we are... but not married yet though.
...and that is how we came to be here in NZ ;)

Well we aren't really planning on getting married in NZ but most likely an island so we can honeymoon in the same place.
Thanks for sharing the photos/stories.

One Island option are the Cook Islands (independent territory of NZ).
If you wish for something closer to NZ, there are many islands near Auckland like Waiheke Island.

Will check it out, thanks. I know some of the islands have had some 'trouble' lately and may not be so safe, so will be checking out all of that as well.

Fiji & Tonga have recently experienced some unrest, particularly in Fiji.
Though Fijians I work with, who have returned since the coup, have told me that the tourist areas have been largely unaffected with most of the 'focus' being around Suva.
So the Cook Islands should be problem free.

Hi there,
I was looking for something completely different, but found this site (http://www.tekapotourism.co.nz/weddings.htm). Not sure if it is what you're looking for, but it sounds pretty cool. Literally, as there's an option to say your vows on a glacier. How many can say that? http://bestsmileys.com/cold/4.gif

Well, I still have little clue where to start as to finding a nice, warm island location and getting married as well as honeymoon there for a couple of weeks. How do you go about things? Do most people go through a travel agency to book it all (including the wedding)?

Have you googled "destination weddings"? You can book it all through the companies that feature DWs. Have you thought about Tahiti/Moorea? Sounds like what your looking for, and Air Tahiti Nui offers a lot of deals between NZ, Oz, and Tahiti. Just some thoughts:)

Thanks Ana. Will check it out...that sounds nice. Guess I also need to look at a map so I know which locations are actually nearby and worth looking into;)

Ok, so I just read that weddings in Tahiti aren't legally recognized?
