[An Englishman in Scotland]

Hi,

My wife and I are a little confused about the whole points thing and whether we need a job offer before applying with an 'Expression of Interest'...

I shall be completing my Chartered Accountancy training (with ICAS - the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) next year and we would like to emigrate to NZ (the Auckland area) as soon as possible thereafter.


When is a good time to get the ball rolling (is a year ahead too soon?)...
Do I apply for jobs first and then complete the EOI once I have an offer?
We
appear to have 110 points (on the quick test), so should we lodge an EOI now anyway?

You don't need a job offer but it may help so it's worth applying I would imagine. We haven't got job offers but we're completing the ITA to send off as soon as we're ready. I found the 'quick check' thing a bit way out on points. What we did was fill in as much of the EOI online as we could [U]without[U] sending it off. It was quite interesting to keep revisiting it to add new info that we never thought we'd ever use! You'll need your qualifications and employment history too so it's worth getting stuck into digging all that out.

As far as timescale goes, a quick scout around the forum will show that some people take longer than others for a variety of reasons. Some have hold ups with paperwork, some with houses for sale, loads of reasons. Others have screeched though with frightening rapidity!

We started the formalities under two months ago and were dreading the long road ahead - but, with apparently only the medicals to get through now, it's all going a bit too quickly and we're having to slow down and catch our breaths. It's a brilliant experience though and you'll always have someone on the forum who can put your mind at rest or confirm your worst fears! And there's always the bananas to keep you focussed:laugh
