Well they have just left after 90 minutes, stayed and had a glass of wine with us! They definitely want this house, only saw one other today and said they don't intend looking at anything else as this is the one. Only downside is they haven't sold theirs yet (only went on the market this week). We all got on so well the woman (Liz) kept saying to me 'I wish you weren't moving, we could be such good friends'.
So we have decided to leave our price as it is for a couple of weeks in case they get a sale and make an offer. Hoping, hoping, hoping.....................

Definitely worth the cleaning! They seem to think theirs won't take too long to sell. It sounds amazing and much bigger than ours - but in Wiltshire so they are not going to get so much for their money here. He starts his job in this area on Monday and says he is going to have to stay over in hotels for a few nights of the week as it is too far to drive so they seriously want to move asap. Plus her daughter and grandchildren live in this area and she wants to be near them.
What was so nice was that we got on so well we felt like old friends. He was admiring M's motorbike and M was drooling over his top of the range BMW so they are both boys who like toys! She was already deciding which trees in the garden she would have to take out as they are blocking the light, and what she would replace them with.
Now we just need to hold our nerve and hope they sell soon!

Sounds really good barb, can their new employer not pay for the house, r pay for a bridgeing loan so that they can buy yours without selling theirs?
MIL is going round to check our house this morning, get rid of any papers and open curtains, so just wait for that fairy to get us a suitable offer.

We had a viewing today, got a call a 3pm wanted to come straight away, managed to put them back till 4.30 so could do a quick once over with the duster and shove everything in drawers.
At 4.30, 3 cars arrived, out got mum, dad, 2 teenage boys, teenage daughter with baby and a couple of friends for good measure.
They filled every room, so we suggested they split into 2 groups so we could take them round different areas.
God knows if they are interested or not as I was kept talking by 'the friends' and A was with the others outside. The baby kept throwing up, the two lads kept going off on their own - we felt invaded.
I'm going to have strong words with the estate agent on Monday - talk about a waste of time! At the end of the day the house may be for sale but its still our home.
Not a happy bunny - hate this selling business.

Dee - that is so horrible, and the sort of tactics shoplifters use. I would also be really unnerved by it.
John - we did wonder about our prospective's maybe getting bridging loan or whatever as he seems to be a director of the company (but we don't know any more than that) but suspect they wouldn't want to leave their Wiltshire home empty. We will have to just be patient and see what happens - they haven't mentioned a figure they may offer, so that could be a problem too. Any more news on your viewers?

Can anyone reassure me that house prices are not suddenly going to slump just because Northern Rock has asked for some cash aid.
EOI was selected this week so although we have no jobs and won't actually visit NZ for the first time until November we decided this week to get the ball rolling onhouse sales. There is a bottom line price we can accept on our home if NZ is going to be a reality. First estate agent gave us optimism but then he suggested the sale price that our neightbour's (identical house) is up for and that has been on the market over a year and has had two sales fall through. The realistic price the next agent suggested meant goodbye NZ.
Just trying to come through that confusion and all we have seen on the TV today is predictions of a house slump with prices set to fall by half in the next year. Someone tell me I'm dreaming!!!

Hi,
I may be wrong but I had interpreted the news regarding house prices, that the houses would be going up at half the price they would normally, so if the house prices we're set to rise by 10% in the next year, it would be 5% instead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I panicked initially and thought, 'I hope our buyers don't see the news'!!!
I may be wrong?!?...Im sure someone will put me right if I am.

We must have been lucky. We did drop a fair bit though. I'd be more worried not about a slow down in house value growth but that individual banks (Abbey for one) have raised their lending rates even though the Bank of England haven't...yet. If youhave any chance to get out and go to NZ then take it. We are going with enough, for us, and thats the bottom line, what do you really need to start again? Be the same as if you stayed here I guess. Good lukc to everyone who wants to and needs to sell, may it happen, swiftly, smoothly and painlessly.

The house across the road from where we are staying was for sale on Trade Me about a month ago and we would have bought it if we had sold ours, it was then shown as sold but appeared the following day to rent on Trade me. Really good feedback from agent said they loved the house, views from garden, location etc but they're not the buyers!! Are looking at properties for their friends who live down South somewhere and then giving them recommendations. Strange way to buy a house but suppose if you know your friends well enough. Also they liked the idea of it being fixed price with no blind bidding thing which is the norm up here. So anyhow the agent seemed positive - maybe we'll get second viewing at the weekend. Hiya Hel. Glad to have more madwomen (you must be or you wouldn't have signed up) on this thread. Although - not being an Eastenders watcher they've lost me now!
As for agents, ours has confused us and caused much discussion in the house as he suggested last week that we lower the price. But we have 2 potential buyers interested at the current price, just neither of them have sold. I think it would be mad to lower the price when we may get an offer in the next few weeks from one of them but M is in a panic and thinks maybe we should. My viewpoint is that these people are interested at the price we are asking and so could other people and that the b----y agent just wants it off his books and a quick £5000 commission. All opinions welcome here!!

18th September 2007, 10:46 PM
Barb - in my opinion - as you've already reduced and now have 2 interested parties I would NOT reduce again. Its just a matter of sitting tight and waiting for market to start moving. You know I know as well as anyone that its easier said than done but you might just regret going down too far if you reduce again. Plus if your potential buyers are just waiting to sell their own it wouldn't make any difference to them and most people are in same position with something to sell. Its a real pain in the rear this situation though - I don't think the idiots in the press are helping with all their scaremongering. We need to start a rumour... house market is on the up... houses are selling quicker than hot cakes .... mortgage rates are going down (well... maybe that ones going a bit far;) )

18th September 2007, 11:10 PM
Oh Vicki you make me laugh. Lets really start that rumour it's a good one. I will phone the Daily Mail in a mo.
Barb - I don't think you should reduce either. The B***** agent does just want it off his books and thinks you are desperate. Just convert the sterling lost to NZD and it doesn't look good. We are not reducing anymore, yet!
Hel - welcome to this mad place. We should start a thread....any cleaning tips? I could rival those mad women on "How Clean is your House". I'm not that blonde in Marigolds though, I'll be the other one. Barb, you have any Marigolds?
For the record, I don't watch Eastenders. Flowers emailing??? Will someone please fill me in

Ha - yes I'll be the blonde in the marigolds. I don't have any but that can be fixed, I'm on my way to Tesco. I watch 'Selling houses' every night and there are so many tips in that programme - amazing what they can do with a bit of chewing gum and string (well not literally but almost!)
Anyway, we just had another viewing booked fro Friday - so proved my point to M that people are very happy to come and view at the current price so what the heck is the point of reducing right now?
