I know - good planning eh?! :D well actually just the fickle hand of fate working our way for a change!
Thanks EVERYONE for your good thoughts and kind comments etc etc
Off in a minute to sign contract and pickup keys on our rental :clap Might try and get some photos - its gorgeous - in a wooded glade, by a babbling stony river - and I when we went down the other evening to show the kids we sat in the garden overlooking the river, all the birds singing etc and no word of a lie ... just on the other side of the river there was a stag!

Hey, Vixxann - don't get too attached to the rental!! It does sound lovely.
Really pleased to hear how things are progressing. It does give the rest of us some hope that a buyer will turn up eventually.....but I never thought that selling the house would be the hardest part of getting to NZ:no

what a day yesterday - I was pooped last night and went to bed at 9.30pm so no time to post on here.
Got the keys - house IS wonderful. First thing boys did was rig up a rope in a tree over the river !! (I mean literally first thing they did - before they even came to look in the house!)
moved quite a few boxes down and will do so all week using the car but we get a big van next saturday for most of furniture. Its a good chance for us to clear out also .. in preparation for the shippers in a few months!
felt strange last night to come back "home"
hope the weather is bringing out some viewers for everyone

It's an odd feeling Vicki I know what you mean. We don't belong in our house any more, I feel we moved out metaphorically weeks ago.
We sold off the last of our things today. 25 degrees, glorious sunshine, lovely tan as a result. Made virtually nothing, but it was the last sale, of all those little things. What's left can go to charity or in the bin.
Still hoping to exchange on Tuesday, this will be the third Tuesday we will have been supposed to do it:roll Fingers crossed everything happens and we are out on Friday.
I hope the weather has brought the buyers out for others on here. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Our weekly update is just more of the same.
No viewings in 3 weeks and both agents saying the only thing to try and sell (note 'try' and not actually sell) was keep dropping the price. They believe that most buyers are reading the stupid press and think prices will keep falling - they could be right though. One agent; who has been in the industry for 30+ years, actually said it is the worst he has experienced because of the speed of reductions in prices. Thanks a bunch!
Thinking about a last low price to sell it and then look for renters as we have had a few varying quotes for this.
We are set to leave in september as we have both told our employers this, so we have an end date, just not any fun filling in the blank middle/selling part.
I'm a house seller in England - get me outta here! :(

know how you feel. been on the market for just over a week now and not one sniff of a viewing, OH spoke to agent on saturday and agent said are you sure you dont want to drop the price?? to which OH said no way, and if it doesnt sell in the next 4 weeks wre taking it off the market and renting it. hes wants to be out of here by august and so do i so it looks like were gonna end up renting it out.

10th June 2008, 08:07 AM
We haven't had a viewing since we came back on the market 6 weeks ago!!!
I went in to our estate agents where I used to work on Saturday, and was told that dropping the price would not guarantee a viewing or any kind of interest, so we are staying at the same price. We are on at 125k, and even a 10k drop was no guarantee of interest:wah
I really don't want to be here anymore:(
I started my new job last Monday, and just see it as a means to an end - save as much as possible to balance out any drop in price we end up having when we finally do sell. I am working for Eon. They seem like a really great company to work for, but I just plod on through each day.
Sorry I am being all doom and gloom, but I really can't lift myself out of it since our sale fell through

Our buyers have seen their mortgage advisors last week and have paid for their survey - apparently due to the poor housing market surveyors aren't rushing to do the job, why??? Surely it is in the interests of all concerned to get a house sale through ASAP so it doesn't fall through. I have contacted our solicitor today to stress to them the importance of getting to exchange ASAP and I also told the same to the agents. Hopefully they will all get their fingers out and get it through. We have put an offer in for a house in NZ but need to exchange within the next 4 weeks or we risk losing it. I suppose it is a matter of keeping the pressure on - I should be thankful we have a buyer.:yes

OH was doing his usual perusal of the real estate sites and came across this house under construction in the area we were looking and in our price range. After numerous emails and phone calls from the agent we eventually decided to put an offer in. We have the contracts but have yet to sign as we are waiting some clarification from our NZ solicitor. As the house is still being built there doesn't seem to be much interest so we have a bit of time on our side. It is a new house so we aren't too worried about being structurally sound as it will have builders guarantees. A couple of forum members have checked it our and sent pictures so we have a good idea of what it is like and the area. Risky I know, but exciting. At least we know where we will end up.:yes

With my outlaws its a case of not wanting to know us, its been like this for 4 years. MIL on visiting us was extremley nasty and we have had nothing to do with her since.
My 7 year old has grown up with no grandparents really in his life although he seems to have adopted several in the village and old friends of my Mums (one of which is planning to emigrate too as both her sons are in NZ) so there is no 'I do not understand why you want to go' senerio we could of lived on the moon for the last 4 years and it would have not made a scrap of difference (so ranting over).
To cut a long story short we have been asked to go to a family christening next month where MIL will be, neither of us wants to go but feel we have to as we have FIL over from Canada staying with us and can not see a way out perhaps this is my punishment and if we go it might break the ice? who:( knows but not looking forward to it or the added expense

How long have people had to wait for the surveyors to come round. Our buyer paid his fee last Monday for the surveyor and I haven't heard a thing from them. I have asked the agents to chase it up. Once they have been then there is nothing holding things up - just so frustrating
victoria24
13th June 2008, 08:34 AM
if the buyer is taking a mortgage then they would need to chase the mortgage company regarding the survey as the lender instructs, if its a cash buy then the buyer pays the surveyor direct so would chase the survyor themselves.
cathgates
13th June 2008, 08:36 AM
The time it takes for a surveyor to come out is often down to the mortgage provider if there is one as they are the ones who instruct them. If there's no mortgage then it's down to when the buyer gets in touch with one, the estate agents will have at least one that they reccommend in those circumstances.
