I have also got to make it up with my mum who isnt speaking to me - basically im taking her grandchildren away - how she can be this selfish i dont know? - after all she did it to her parents!!! when we were kids we moved to a pacific island and in those days there was no skype, telephones were extremley expensive so we used to just get letters.!!!!!

I do see their side of it but why cannot they see ours?? (and they may be their grandchildren but they are OUR children) :(

Tell them that their grandchildren will have dual nationality and the ability to come and go to the UK, Aus and NZ when they are older.... after a good education that may be, in this very uncertain world, one of the best gifts you can give them...

We have been lucky and have got a buyer, we have had the survey done - all good so far. But now things seem to have ground to a halt. The agents seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth - the office I call has diverted their phone to another office who do not have our file. They keep taking messages but I never get a call back. I have just spoken to our solicitor who says they have been chasing the buyers solicitor since the beginning of June for their 'enquiries' regarding the contract but have heard nothing. We are at a standstill. We need to exchange within the next 3 weeks (we are in the process of buying a property in NZ and need to exchange) but I can't do any more. I just want to go round to the agents office & the buyers solicitor and give them both a kick up the back side. Don't think it would help the situation but it would help me :D

We have not had anything for 4 weeks. The agent said they used to do 40 viewings over a weekend and last weekend they did 2 !!!!! He has been an agent for 30+ years and is saying he has never experienced anything like this and just does not what to do - well that helps.
So, we are now signed with 3 letting agents in the hope we can rent quicker and try to sell next year from NZ- just means I will need to get a job quicker, but at least we will get to NZ. :nice1

Well we had the estate agent out to value the house last night. The value in order to sell was so much lower than we expected, that even though we would have liked the capital to go with, we are now looking at renting it out for a few years, and trying to ensure we have jobs lined up. At least my sister already lives in Auckland, so will break the bad news to her, that we will be living with her forever! :laugh (OK maybe not!)
Well the good news from all of this is, if we get it rented out we hope to be heading off to Auckland in September/ October time! Yippeee!! :nice1

Trouble is, we're keen to reduce it by €20,000 to get a definite buyer before the end of Summer, but French agent is still wishing us to hold fire until he's heard back from the French Bank re. English couples mortgage offer... frustrating or what

Thats nothing, Jaybee, a few weeks ago we had a prospective buyer due round, about 20 minutes before my son was trying to help and lit the oil burners. He threw the match (after he had blown it out) into the dustbin whereby the heat from it caused some polystyrene to catch a light. The viewers turned up just as the fire brigade left. But they have asked to come back - as we have sold we said no !!!!
Furthert to my earlier whinge - I have finally contacted the agent who has said that the mortgage offer has come through but that the buyers have now gone on holiday for 4 weeks - aaaaargh:wah It seems that they all (their solicitors included) got confused and thought that as we wanted to COMPLETE in September it meant that we didn't want to EXCHANGE until September. The agent will contact them as soon as they return to get exchange sorted.

I posed the question to our French agent exactly how many properties are they interested in... "just yours, they wish to leave England as soon as possible" :D

Cathgates, Janey and I are probably the last of the old gang on here now. So its comforting to see that the majority of folk who have had the fairy are now in NZ. Wouldn't it be great if the fairies were still going years from now -they would of course need their own suitcases (and passport for the Kiwi fairy) but I'd like to think they would still be giving hope to newbies.

Sorry folks, have read a lot of this thread, but not all of it!!
I wondered is anyone selling a small low priced house? We have a 3 bed mid-terrace, which we bought for a massive £32K 9 years ago, and at the minute no houses are selling in our area.
As we have no savings (3 kids, a dog, a hamster and 2 guinea pigs being the reason!!) we need to sell in order to make the BIG move to NZ. We are hoping for about £125-£130K for the house, which sounds like peanuts compared to some of the other messages in this thread, but enough for us to pay off all our debts, and have a good start in NZ.
Is anyone else trying to sell a similar property? Ours is not on the market yet, still decorating and saving for new carpets/kitchen etc.

Been a while since we posted, so I thought we would post a wee update.
We are now 3 months on the market, so far we have had 18 viewings from 12 separate parties, read somewhere that the average property now takes 19 viewings to sell so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for a real buyer.
We had one hot (estate agent term for someone who can actually buy rather than window shop) offer so far that was £65k under which we rejected.
We have two parties very keen on the place but they are either waiting on a buyer or their chain has not formed, both have put in offers £25k. Which is a lot better until you think really it is like virtual shopping it’s not real until they have a buyer and know how much cash they have to spend.
It had gone quiet for a few weeks and I was dreading the estate agent phone call when he would yet again try and get me to drop the price, but we had 4 viewings this weekend. Two of which were second viewings from what I term as real buyers i.e. those who can complete rather than someone who has put their home on the market or in some cases not even at that stage.
We have as yet not dropped the price for a few reasons, one that we seem to be getting a fair amount of activity, two everyone in this market will be looking for a discount whatever the price and three that our ITA has been diverted from destination please come and stay in NZ to the Medical Assessor on account of Liz having a cholesterol level of 6.2. It’s delayed the process for us by about 8 weeks between getting her doctor to write a massive 1 paragraph (3weeks multiple phone calls) and then to wait on the medical assessor to come to a decision (5 weeks so far).
Been a bit like limbo land here for the last month or so, hoping NZIS MA will get back next week either way @ least that way we know where we stand.

Our house is a 3 bed mid-terrace too. Built in 1930's. back in January we were advised to put it on for £175k and told we would probably get £170k. Withing a matter of weeks we had an offer of £167k from a 1st time buyer' that we accepted. Sale fell through as she couldn't get a mortgage - this was March/April. Immediately put it on with other agents but as the prices had dropped a lot we had to drop ours to £160k. Had loads of viewings and ended up with 3 offers all for £155k shortly after it went on the market. All 1st time buyers. One droped out but the others proceeded. We are now down to just the one as one realisewd the repayments would be too high. It seems that we were in the ' 1st time buyer' area of the market at the lower price and the type of house. Admittedly we could have redecorated more to attract more people but it worked out ok in the end (as long as the buyer returnes from hoiday SOON and signs the blooming contract). I think the smaller, lower prioced houses are selling a little better than the slightly more expensive and bigger ones. Not many people are upgrading but lots are ookiong for 1st homes or rental properties to let. Good luck.

i would agree. where we live there is a house called a "statham house" which is a three bed semi and they go for about 150-160. whatever is going on in the market, there is always demand for these and they always sell if priced correctly within that banding.
wish i kept mine now to sell rather than this hoofing great noose we currently live in!
