It may be a lot less than you are asking (but not as offensive as our offer) but it is a very positive step in the right direction.

Hi Barb,
We're in negotiations...they have set mortgage up, nothing to sell as they are renting out their house, and we can complete when we want. Told estate agent its a no, we want to sell but at a fair price, and she is getting back to them. They want to extend kitchen and say it will cost £30,000...I have said its really nice that we can complete when we want, but it wont cost my £15,000 to stay at my mums for a month, or topay the mortgage for 2months if we complete after we have left the country. I think they thingk we're desperate...and we're not;)

Did I read that right you’ve had an offer:raebanana , from who, the ones with the flashy car from the posh end of town, or the ones checking out the whole neighbourhood?
£15k below the asking price is a starting point for negotiation; you could always throw in all the biscuits they can eat, if they up it, to the asking price.
I might be able to help you on the biscuit front, because…
I just had a rep in at work and his company are giving away a free tin of biscuits for every catalytic converter we buy from them this month.
Poor ‘old’ Graham, hope he feels better soon, until I hurt my back a few years ago, I always thought that these ‘bad back people’ needed to toughen up a bit and quit making excuses. Boy was I wrong; I discovered first hand that it’s totally debilitating and there’s basically nothing that you can do to get comfortable without the pain. For me it went away nearly as quickly as it came, so I hope it’s the same for Graham.
The recruitment agency sounds promising, is that Tradestaff?
Anyway I must dash; I’ve got a dozen catalytic converters to fit by lunch:laugh

Hey James,
Its the people who checked out all the neighbourhood!! Its is Spencer from Tradestaff, and sounds promising! We're up £5,000 in negotiations at the moment, with no mentio of biscuits...we've told them we will meet them half way, so they need to push it up a little bit more...so will keep you posted! A Free tin of biscuits...how funny after all of our discussions.....

Hi all
How funny Jade that we both now have offers 10K below asking price. We have just had another viewing and they also had a 2nd look and seem to really like it....but they are going away to THINK :wah left in limbo land again.
Lady who made our offer hasn't come back with any more
My ten year old is driving me nuts...what is it with 10 year olds? and no it isn't a sugar rush from too many biscuits. He has only had cereal and apple so far. He is going Bowling with a friend later so maybe a little peace then.
The weather really isn't helping parents. Wish this blooming rain would let up :uhoh
Jade - a good friend of mine is a really good Osteopath and I will ask her about herniated discs later. You never know she may be able to shed some light. I really feel for Graham too. I can't imagine what he may be going through. I have helped clients during latter stages of rehab and they all say how exhausting constant pain is. Positive vibes sent to you both for better health and a sale at the right price.

I know it is different circumstances but 10K with no chain I would jump at.
The van has still not sold, 4 viewers in the last 2 days, 1 said no straight away; one sort of agreed a price, then went to get his wife, said they were going away to discuss, phoned today and said no; one said they were going away to think about it and have not phoned since and one is coming back with his wife on Saturday. Have 2 other possible viewings on Sat, so here's hoping.
Still no further with the house
hope Graham has more satisfaction from his new dr, but don't concede on the house price if you think it is worth more.
Mickstim
17th August 2007, 01:44 AM
I have just checked Rightmove and the people behind us have just dropped their price by £15 000 putting them in closer competition to us. They have a much larger house and apparently are quite desperate to sell or they lose the house they want.
It's so hard to know whether to take a low offer or wait it out Jade. I think if our offer had been £10 000 less than asking price we would have been more tempted, but only if the buyers had no chain. I do hope they come back and offer you a bit more. It would be a great relief to have sold, and with the NZ dollar getting lower you may make up the difference on exchange rate, as long as it stays that way.

No news regarding house offer, and to be honest it just isn't a priority at the moment with Graham the way he is...I dont know whether this is a good or a bad thing?? Natalie, thank you so much for all info you sent me so much appreciated...Barb, can you afford to drop house to compete with other house or not?? You also need to think about the fact that each house is different, next door to us is 45,000 more, and four houses down the road is 40,000 cheaper...doesn't necessarily go on size...have you chatted to your agents about it and asked there advice??
Hope you sell van Speckythecky
Mickstim
17th August 2007, 03:22 AM
The house behind us is still £70 000 more than ours but has an extra bedroom, extra bathroom, extra sitting room and 2 garages. I think we may reach people who can't afford that much.
There is also another house in our cul de sac that is a bit cheaper than ours (they have dropped by £50 000) but we think ours has more to offer and is a much quieter position, so we don't really see that one as serious competition. Actually judging by the garden it's a bit of a mess.
The agents have said that our price is as low as it should be and if we hang on and be patient we should get our price, so we are trying not to worry about it yet. At least we don't have to go until May (although we wanted to go much earlier than that). Plan B at the moment is that if it isn't sold by April 08 we will leave it empty for a while, but our agents seem very confident that it will go long before that. We can only hope they are right!
I do hope you manage to get some real help for Graham - sounds as though he is in agony.

I think it is such a difficult decision to make because every £ does make a difference. We have agreed a figure we don't want to drop below, but whether we would bend if someone came close to it I have no idea. Our offer was nowhere near it. I suspect they are hoping you will buckle first and it almost becomes a matter of principal. However I do think you have been fair offering to go halfway and in the end you have to decide how badly you want this or whether you are prepared to give in eventually. I would definitely leave it for a while anyway as they took long enough to decide which house they wanted to buy and they must be fairly sure it's yours.
I do hope Gray will get some relief tomorrow. Keep us posted and try to get some sleep tonight!

Jade,
My comments are just for our situation, everybody is in a different place in the removal / immigration process so what I would do, is not necessary the right move for yourselves.
On our house front, we spoke to agents today to tell them that the house would be empty from 1st week in Sept and that if we hadn't had any further movement by October we would be renting. We also asked them to pass this on to our prospective buyers. They phoned later to say that they had spoken to the buyers who had just been on to their agents and had blown their tops (it has been on the market for a couple of months and hasn't been in the paper yet, and isn't again this week).
At least they now know our situation and if they want it, then they will have to come up with something.

Glad to see you are all still holding in there.
When we finally had the offer on our house we had dropped the price by £3,000 and had a new roof fitted as we had a feeling it was letting the property down. Ended up loosing £8,000 in the end, but the thought of going through re-applying, medical costs, and time...... it had to be done.:no
Great to hear you have had an offer Jade :nice1 I'm sure they will find the £2,500 if they really want it.
Hope your oh's back gets better soon.

I'm sure you're going to pull through this all and when you look back they'll all just seem like a series of steps to get you to the place you want to be.
I know at times its VERY hard and the steps seem to do that turning into a slope thing and sliding you back to the beginning - but I'm being positive (today!) and thinking of the end results.
No news on our house... no viewers this week but just as well as we are in middle of a major clean out and have filled the garage with car booting material (fingers crossed the rain will stay away Sunday and we can get it out of the way). Jade and Gray,
I had a spinal operation way back in 1987 in Wigan of all places while I was on holiday and I crushed several vertabrate and they were able to straighten the one causing the main problem. I was back at work in 8 weeks albeit on light duties to start. At the time I was extremely worried thinking I would never walk again but the dedication of the medical staff at Wigan was second to none and I was up and about in no time. Of course 20 years later they are more advanced now so recovery time should be less. We are both thinking of you but would like to reassure you that this is just a slight hiccup coming from someone whos been there

Just make sure he just sticks to the painkillers. My oh got himself in a right state a couple of years ago he had a severer case of toothache - in an attempt to get rid of the pain he took a concoction of pain killers, clove oil and whiskey. He passed out half way up the stairs. I don't know how I did it but I managed to drag him up the remaining stairs and get him into bed.....I should say there that he is 6.3 and was 14 stone at the time compared to my 5.3 ft, 8 stone frame.. It's funny how you find strength when you need it..
