Hi,

My husband is planning to submit his PR application in the partnership category at the end of the month in London.
Has anyone got any experience of this and how long it took? I would also be interested to know of any issues you encountered along the way.
Cheers!
Kate

Hi Kate,

welcome to the forum :)

There are quite a number of people on this forum who have experience with this.

I have just applied for this, and my application took from the 23rd of April (submitted in person) to the 21st of May (approval in principle), so about a month. We have not encountered any problems or issues, it was all pretty straightforward.

Good luck with your application,

Daniela

Thanks Daniela for the quick reply,

Did you need to make an appointment to submit in person, or did you just turn up?
Good luck for your move!

You can just turn up to NZ house - depending on the time of you day you may need to queue, but they checked our application in about 15 minutes.

Straightforward partnership applications seem to be taking between four and six weeks for the whole shebang (including getting a case officer)

Ours has taken four months so far because my British OH has some hereditary medical issues which NZIS are a bit grumpy about. We're waiting on news of a medical waiver - but they've been very prompt about asking for more infor and considering it.

Hi Kate,

I also recently applied for residency via the partnership policy. It took about 5wks from posting my application to receiving my approval in principle. It took another 10 days when I sent my passport to have the actual visa put in (arrived back yesterday with my blue stickers!! Woo hoo!) I sent a certified copy of my passport with the application form as I needed to renew it. It was a very straightforward process and as long as you have no medical problems and sufficient evidence to prove your relationship I'm sure it will be for you too, good luck! :nice1

Wiki - I really hope you get news about your partners medical waiver really soon.

As others have said it has recently been taking 4-7 weeks, though until recently it was taking 10-13 months so it can change quickly.
I have been told the processing times get much slower from July 1st as the (Government) year ends 30 June.

Took us only a few weeks under the partnership route too and I couldn't speak highly enough of London NZIS for how prompt and curteous they were. Hope it goes as smoothly for you too :)
