Hi all,

I've been lurking around the board for a few weeks, ever since my wife put her application for registration with the Nursing Council in the mail. She has an interview with the Christchurch Hospital ED on Monday! :raebanana

We decided that we wanted to live abroad for a while before we start having children, and NZ seemed like the sort of place we'd like to live. We'll be there for a minimum of a year. We've never even visited NZ, so we're kind of jumping into the unknown! :D

I'm an electrical engineer (lasers, mainly), and I know there's not a whole lot of that work in CC. But I'm very tired of my current job/commute, so I'm hoping to pick up work wherever I can. (My wife said she'd try to hook me up with the hospital laundry! :laugh ) We're hoping to live within walking/biking distance of work, which will be a refreshing change.

Anyways, I'm sure I'll be around a bit to ask all the questions that have been asked before.

Thanks in advance!
Grant (and Jamie)

I have a soft spot for Albuquerque. We broke down driving there while driving to New York and a guy riding by on his bike pushed us to his house, drove the husband to get the part and then installed it and we were up and running in no time. Nice folks there.

Welcome to the forum and FWIW we've never been to NZ either!

Welcome! We've been in NZ since January from California and no regrets so far (well all right, a bit of homesickness but no regrets on moving!)

I'm another one with a soft spot for Albuquerque; I've been there twice and really enjoyed it. We were just there in December staying there while exploring around the Santa Fe/Taos area on a 2 week trip around the southwest right before we moved, beautiful area.

Good luck with your wife's interview & your plans!

Albuquerque?

I lived over the hill near Estancia 1998-2002.

Thanks guys.

I'm a California native, and while the desert is beautiful, after a couple of years, the desolation has started to get to me. Hopefully it's time to move on to (literally) greener pastures.

Cheers,
Grant & Jamie

The interview took place last night. Jamie thought it went fine, though she was disappointed to learn that there were only 8 and 10 hour shifts available at the hospital (she prefers to work 12 hour shifts and just work fewer days).

Hopefully we'll be hearing back from them soon, as well as from the Nursing Council.

Jamie has a job offer, contingent on approval of her NZ nursing license. We're just waiting on the FBI!
