Just a quick note of introduction from us. We are in Hamilton and have been in the country for two months and LOVING it.We have moved here from Harrismith , SA. Eventhough a lot of people from SA have had to leave for the crime (Yip - I understand !!), luckily we came for better reasons, I'm a kiwi and so it was a case of just coming home although we hav been away for more than twenty years (more SA at heart than a kiwi!).

Still on the job hunt, trying to find the 'right job' as opposed to the 'right NOW job', I think that a lot of us make the mistake of grabbing the first job that comes along,as we see the rands flying out the window really quickly.

We would love to hear from any other new arrivals in the 'MIghty Waikato" to hear how you are settling in.

Glad that you have settled in well. You're in the lovely Waikato region. Me and the OH (Rach) absolutely fell in love with the place on our last visit to NZ (Jan 06). We are not in NZ yet, but hope to move to this region, either Cambridge, Te Awamutu or maybe Hamilton itself....:)

Still early days for us, but we wish you all the best with your exciting venture!!

We have been in Cambridge for over 4 months now and are settling in very well, the kids love it, I'm feeling more settled and My partner J is loving it (especially as he seems in no rush to get a job). I'm working in Tokoroa, although my official base is in Hamilton. I like how we're in the middle, so we can go somewhere different every w/e. We've bought a Mazda Bongo camper van, so we've had lots of fun exploring so far.

Welcome to Hamilton, we've been here for almost a year now:yes
and loving it. We live in Pukete which is near the base shopping centre but we are having a house built in Te Pahu which is about 20 mins out of town. Our dream was a life style block & a warm house, unlike our rental.
There is always loads going on in Hamilton, we are going to see the All Blacks saturday.
Good luck with the job hunt:) What field of work are you in? My hubby is an electrical engineer and is always looking for staff.

Hi Amanda,
I don't often check the forum, I just come for a look every now & again:) Hamilton seems to be a popular place, we arrived last July. To celebrate been here a year we are going to the snow during the school hols (should be fun we've never been ski-ing before)
We have 4 children Helen 16, Ben 14, Laura 10 & Hannah 4 who started morning kindy this week. I'm a little lost at the moment because all the clubs we went to were in the morning, so now I'm trying to find some afternoon things.
Life is good, we are enjoying the freedom of renting but then I can't wait for our own house. When we arrived last year we really struggled finding a rental in a nice area and we were desperate to get one quick because we were staying in a freezing, damp holiday home near cambridge.
We've looked at loads of houses and decided we would build, it was a struggle finding land that we could afford but we found some, we found just asking friends & neighbour was a big help with good areas & agents. We are in the process of signing up for a house build now, just waiting for the plans to come back for us to approve.
How long have you been in NZ? Are you enjoying life? Is your other half looking forward to the game? My kids can't wait, even Hannah likes rugby. I just hope the Mooloo cow is there:laugh
