Hi Everyone,
I am already in NZ but we would love to try and bring our x2 dogs over as we miss them soooo much! We are originally from SA so that is where they are currently in good care by family member.
I would love to hear from SA people that moved over here that brought the dogs along as i know that it is much more expensive from SA than from any other country.
If someone can give me some idea of what i should do what the steps are how much it will costs +- and how long they must be in quarintine for?
Thank you very much,
Werner

I believe the quarantine from SA is 4 months. This will be a big part of the cost. Sorry I can't give you some numbers, hopefully someone else can.
Too many dogs

Hi Werner
I am sooooo glad you asked me about the dogs!!
We are hoping to be in NZ February next year. We are doing the whole Permanent Residency process and have employed an emigration agent in Wellington. Obviously things would be more in our favour if we had job offers...
We have 5 dogs, but we are only taking 3. What I can give you is contacts and what we are paying to get our babies over. I will explain your options.
You have two options: Do it yourself or get someone to do it for you.
Doing it yourself:
You need to start with their innoculations 6 months before they are due to leave. This is rabies testing and micro-chipping. Once you have the results for the rabies test you apply for an import permit from NZ Dept of Agriculture and get the State Vet in SA involved. (If you give me an email, I can send the list of tests and all other info.).
The remaining tests are done from between 35 days to departure to the last test 4 days before departure.
For you the cost will not be that hectic, but it is time consuming and you need to do everything to exact detail or they could be turned away or destroyed once they get to NZ. Ask someone you know you can trust who is super organised.
The total cost for these tests per animal is R4 404.00 (NZ $ will be cheaper).
There is a company in SA called Animal Travel and they will collect your pets from the residence, organise all relavent paperwork and make sure they are safely boarded.
Quarantine in NZ is then four months and what you pay depends on what your pet weighs. The Quarantine kennel will collect your pets from the airport and they will go straight to the kennels. You are allowed to visit them without an appointment.
Someone else:
There is a company called Kookaburra based in Pretoria. They send your pets via Australia. The advantage is they do all the tests so you don't have to worry. The downside is your pets are in quarantine for 7 months (six in SA and one in AU).
Your only concern is getting your pets to Pretoria. The rest is taken care of and you can relax knowing they are on their way.
We are going to do it ourselves (because I am super organised! )
The total cost for us to get our 3 dogs over is going to be in the region of R36 500.00. Quarantine for us will be just over $14 000.00.
If you are interested, send me your e-mail and I will attach all necessary docs. I have pricing and procedures for everything!
Please keep in touch!
