Hi everyone,
Just a quick question, does anyone know if a job offer is required to apply for a work to residence. I hopefully plan to apply for a work to residence through the accredited emplyer section but finding it hard to find emplyment without being in NZ. The plan was to go over there an then find a job, would this be possible via the work to residence route?
Thanks
Tony

I think you have to get a working visa first, then apply for WTR once you get the job here, not gone down that route but there are people on here who can help you on that score.
Welcome to the forum if I haven't already done so!! Wonder where you are in Derbs?

Yes, unfortunately you would need a job offer to go down the Work to Residence Visa through an Accredited Employer route. Please see this NZIS page (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/worktoresidence/howdoiapply/stepsfortalent%28accreditedemployers%29/).Submit evidence of your offer of employment
Your offer of employment must be current at the time we assess your application for a work visa or permit, and must include:
the employer’s name, address and contact details
your name and address
the job title or designation
the address of the place of employment
the type of work, duties and responsibilities of the job
details of the pay and conditions of employment, such as sick or holiday leave
qualifications and experience requirements
confirmation of whether or not registration in New Zealand is required
the duration of the job
how long the job offer is open for. The offer must meet the requirements of New Zealand employment laws.
However -- you could apply under the Skilled Migrant (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/caniapply/default.htm) category instead and perhaps be granted permanent residence without a job offer, as my OH and I were.
added - or as StevieD just said, you could try going for a Work Visa. I dont' know much about that.

Cheers mate, do you know if you can get a working visa without a job? That sounds like the best route for us - do you have any info on how to apply for one? We live in Glossop just one the outskirts of the peak district. Thanks for your help

Thanks Jess, I think i may have to persue the work visa option. We are considering putting in an EOI with 110 points without a job offer, do you know if this would be a suitable option?
Thanks

TonyI dont' know much about work visas (someone will probably come along who does) but I thought if you filled out an EOI that you'd be applying for PR in the skilled migrant category.
The skilled migrant category does allow for people with over 100 points to have their EOIs kept in the pool for up to 3 months. They pull people with 140 points and with job offers first, but if they have enough space they take people under 140 with no offers, working their way down to 100. Whether you get pulled out at 110 pts no job offer would depend on how far down the list they went. I'm not sure how far down they've been going lately. Perhaps someone else knows.

Hi Guys
What is your job? Can't help much with your question but a big welcome to you. My Hubby is a sparks and he is being offered a "work to residence" until he is registered as an Electrician which can only be done when in NZ. We submitted EOI with 130 points and were selected same day. Not sure how many points are being selected at present but there used to be a write up about the selection process on the NZIS site every fortnight.
You could take a huge leap of faith and just go out there. Yes a little risky but hey we've only one life. Have you got children? ;)

Hi guys, im a project manager in the telecoms industry but unfortunately it doesnt appear on the list. We've just been looking at our EOI, i can get 100 points without a job offer but unsure whether to risk it as it states that you cant apply for a working holiday once you've been rejected from an application. We think that a working holiday may be the best option and then try to apply for work once out there and complete the EOI with a job offer to get the points. My parents are also going over and have 135 points on there EOI so should hopefully get selected straight away. I think we're either going to try and be adopted by them once over there or apply for residency ourselves once employment has been secured. Any advice would be great. Congrats on being offered a work for residence, its all onwards and upwards now hey!! :nice1
