OH is currently contacting schools looking for employment (as a primary teacher).
She has written her CV and is in the process of writing a covering letter.
Does anyone have any good examples of covering letters, or any ideas on 'buzz words' or phrases that are currently important to the new zealand education system.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Guys
Glad you seem to be progressing nicely. I can't help with wording but one thing we noticed with covering letters is that NZ folk are so laid back. Nobody used "Dear So and so" it was all "Hi Guys". Hope an offer comes really soon.

Sorry, I have to disagree with this. You definitely want to be professional when you're applying for a job i.e., Dear Sir, or Dear Mr Soandso.
There's some useful info about applying for jobs in NZ here:

I'd er on the side of formal too, Kiwi's are laid back but "hi guys" to start a covering letter for your CV seems extreme!

I'd have to go for formal as well. Steve's <first> rough draft opened with "Kia Ora", and when we sent it to a Kiwi friend of ours who is a manager in HR, (she's very laid back) she suggested changing it as Kia Ora was too informal. Steve now uses "Dear SoAndSo" or, if we don't know the name "To the HR Dept at Whatever" Also, he now tweaks or even rewrites every cover letter per job, which is different from what we're used to.
Good luck with everything,
Ana

I think is cute to using Kia Ora, too bad they didn't like it...

Thanks for all the responses guys,
Will probably avoid the kia ora and the hi guys and stick to the formal approach.
