I just came back from my medical here in Whangarei NZ. Just the medical on its own was $250.00, does this seam alot to people? I also have to pay for the X Rays and Blood tests.

Some people said they recently paid $100 each at a differant medical center.

Also, the doctor said for for the blood test I have to fast. It was the first time he had done a medical for Immigration, and I think he might have this wrong. From what I have read, you only fast if you do a certain test if your BMI was above 35, or your waist was over 107cm?

We paid $300 in Wellington, but others have said that they paid $90 so it does look like it may pay to shop around?

The need to have a fasting glucose blood test may be indicated by the urine test done e.g. if too much glucose detected.

AFAIK, the reason for this test is not directly related to BMI (or waist size) but those who may be susceptible to diabetes (of course if you are over-weight then your risks do increase).

My wife went in for hers today at the same place, same doctor. They have made so many mistakes. They muddled our date of births up, he didnt fill out the Referal For Blood Test part. He had ticked all the blood tests for me on his own referal form. He said I had to fill out the tick boxes that he HAS to ask me and tick himself.

When my wife went in today, she took my form and said i only need the discretionary blood tests unless something was abnormal, else just the standard tests. He disagreed and argued, until she eventually convinced him to read to form, which he did, and then realised he was wrong!

Any way, its a good job we know what we are doing, as we done them all in the UK for a work visa 7 months ago!

Adult Medical $140, 12yr old $75 and 3 younger children $70. Kids were discounted as they should have been $ 100 each. Docs away on vacation now after that nice little earner!
We did not shop around tho and went to our nearest one so cant complain.
