Im thinking about studying in Australia. Can someone please tell me if i need a visa for it wnen im still pemanent resident. i know that NZ citizens are not required to have any visa. i will get my citizenship within this year but i might go to Australia before that. What are the visa requirements in my case??

As I understand it, with merely PR you do need a visa as well as having to pay international fees etc.
(Of course, Australian residents get all the advantages only NZ citizens do in Australia coming to NZ, but that's another complaint)

Yes as anna said, you need a visa with PR. Or at least we did on our holiday.

General Aussie student visa info is here (http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/visa-enquiries/students-visas-outside.htm). There are different categories as listed here (http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/index.htm) depending on what level of education you will be pursuing. They say it can take up to 3 months to process, depending on your "assesment level" which is dependent on the country where you have citizenship and your level of study.

Oddly the Aussie visa site lists asessment level 2 for all New Zealanders seeking a student visa... but I'm not sure why a New Zealand citizen would need one. ? Perhaps someone else knows...

I see it's your first post. Welcome to the forum!! :D
