Hi,

We're a couple of months into the process and have spent a lot of time researching the best way for us to emigrate to NZ. It looks like the SMC is our best bet but I'm now unsure whether its worth the gamble submitting an EOI without a job offer. We score 115 points, but without bonus points for experience or qualification in skills shortage areas. The question is, what are our realistic chances of being selected from the pool on that basis.

Anyone else found themselves in a similar position? Any experiences of success or not would be very welcome.

Thank you,

Steve

We got pulled out first time with 115 points then came here and got jobs. but we were already being processed so took 12 months in total from submitting and we worked on work permits in the meantime.

We only make 70 points without a job offer! Mainly due to the fact that all my skills come from work experience with no formal qualifications. With a job offer in the right place it shifts us up to around 135..

30 of my points come from work experience (Project/Progamme Management). In the NZIS policy manual section it states that experience will count if you can demonstrate using or acquiring significant technical or management skills as part of the job. However, to qualify for the bonus points you must have the experience backed by the relevant qualification.

Angelonthemove - I assume none of your points were derived from bonuses for skills shortage. When were you taken from the poll?

Are you claiming any points for having a 'basic recognized qualification'. If you have a degree in any subject this will still give you 50 points. Are you able to claim any bonus points for your partner? Also, the rules for points is changing very soon (can't remember exact date but maybe July) so you may qualify for more points if you wait a few weeks.

As you can see from Angela - it's not unknown to be picked from the pool with 115 points, it may just take a while.

thanks pinkpiggy

my qualification is on the NZQA recognised list so i'm confident in 50 of my points. my dilemma really centered around speculating £300 on an EOI with 115 points that would be unlikely to be selected without bonus points for experience or qualifcations in skills shortage areas.

still interested in hearing experiences from anyone in a similar position. how are you finding the process? if you were successful what made the difference for you?

thanks,

steve

For the past few months the draws have never included anybody without a job or bonus points.
