Have anyone tried Waipara Weka Pass Railway or Trans-alpine railway (day trip type from christchurch to arthur's pass)?
I am trying to organise my son's birthday day trip. Weka pass is 45min each way, very short but very long drive to get there first (just over a hour) while trans-apline is from christchurch's station 2.5hr to arthur's pass then 5 hour there before 2.5hr back...we wondering which one would be best for our kids who is just 4 and 17months.
Thanks

I haven't actually done either trip but when i was asking the mums at playcentre for things to do they all recommended the weka pass railway as a must do for kids. of course, it's a bit nearer to us than where you are!

The trans-alpine is a great trip, but it may well be a bit tiring for such young children as it's a long day.

Thanks everyone for infos, Helen (Moorf) also mentioned that trans-apline is long too, so look like we will go to weka pass railway instead...and maybe stop at Mudhouse Winery for lunch :cheers
