Can anyone help ?

Really cheesed off....

Received a letter today from NZ van lines stating our boxes were arriving in Wellington today.

In the letter were the usual paperwork to fill in for customs, which we expected, but what we didnt expect was a long list of charges that we have to pay to actually 'receive' our stuff -

Customs duty/GST
Storage rental and store handling fees
MAF quarantine inspection fees
Customs expection fees
Cleaning or fumigation charges , including re delivery of these items
Shuttle vehicle - due to difficult access ar residence.

We were not told anything of these charges back in UK.
The letter doesnt even state any kind of charge structure.

I phoned the company here in NZ, as couldnt understand why they were going all the way to Wellington, when they could have been shipped to Napier, and was told that 'because i was 'from overseas' they couldnt deal with me, have to wait till monday'

Anyone had a similar experience ??
Totally cheeses off!!

There are a few posts on the forum if you do a search about NZ van lines and the slight "shady" charging practices, try and get hold of the UK end by email today see what they say, not sure they will be able to help you, but its worth a go...

Tried already, they were brilliant when we were sending them over, but have been next to useless since we moved over. never return my calls or emails... I have emailed my dad the info that NZ van lines have sent us, and he is going down to the UK shippers to ask what the hell is going on!

We have had an awful time with NZ Van lines with the 5 boxes we sent ahead of our main container. Their customer services are unbelievable. I was going to start a thread about it, but it winds me up so much thinking about it that I can't bring myself to post about it.

Suffice to say, my 5 boxes arrived in Auckland in March (15th) and we received them last week. That included essentials like bedding, iron, kettle. GRRRRRRR

It was only 5 boxes so there were no extra costs. They didn't let me know that my boxes had arrived for a month (although they INSISTED that they had and I had deliberately lost the letter), then MAF took a week or so, then they sent me a letter asking for my visa card details for delivery (I hadn't paid for this in advance), they wouldn't take the details over the phone, I had to send them in, then apparently they had to send the details of my visa card to head office, then wait for head office to write back and say they had received payment, then it was another 3 weeks until they bothered to deliver them And a lot of phone calls to boot.

Did you get charged storage in all that time too ?? They are trying to charge us this and amongst the charges are ones for spraying the boxes. Weve been told they would spray the whole container that boxes are in, so they must be making a killing!!!

No, I told them I'd take them to court if they tried to charge me storage due to their incompetence! They know my voice on the phone now (!) and I dread to think what service I will get when my container arrives in 4 weeks time. They will probably spit on it rather than spray it!

My dad went down to the UK shippers today and was told by them the letter we had was a bog standard letter and only the customs and MAF one will be eligible for us.
Hope he is right, told us we will have to pay $150-180....
Hubby rang him, he was very loathe to talk to him, told us NZ van lines were an excellent company, hubby said 'thats not what we heard'
