FRUSTRATION!!!

Started my new job two and a half weeks ago at the Hospital.

When i went for the interview, i was told a rate and told the hours i would be expected to work.

Since then, i am paid $2k less and my hours are wrong.... feel like i am being taken advantage of.

To top this off, i have not got own pc, have to 'find one' every day where i am based, and the guy i am learning the work off, hardly ever has any work to give me or wont show me 'the ropes'

Its a long day.....

Today i asked about putting my salary in writing for confirmation that i am earning what i say i am, and lo and behold, the boss says she is underpaying me by about $600, so have reapplied my pay - at least one positive thing!

Dont know what to do, the people i work with are nice, friendly and accept me, but cant stand sitting around twiddling my thumbs.... I know at least i am getting paid, but its crazy. This guy who should be giving me work is on holidays in 2 weeks and i am supposed to me covering him ??

Yesterday i spent best part of 2 hours folding forms up and putting sticky labels on appointment cards - felt like the office junior!

Sorry to keep on, buy so annoyed!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds rotten Sharon, I hate it when you start a new job and you're not sure what you're supposed to be doing. Can you talk to the person who interviewed you and get them to clarify your role?

What job have they employed you as?

I feel for you, I know how rotten you feel when you get paid for sitting around doing nothing - I do it all day. It makes you wonder why they have employed you and how long will the role last. Keep smiling and taking the money. speak to the guy who is training you and tell him you need to know what he expects you to do while he is off and speak to the boss and get a PC / laptop organised.

Good luck, have a good weekend and don't think about work till monday morning

It sounds to me like you're doing the right thing. Get ALL it in writing!

Yes, it is important to get all contract details in writing (this is also a legal requirement for your employer).

Some organisations do not assign a computer for all staff, so it can vary depending on your role and organisation.

I hope things improve with time.

Ah, hotdesking ;)

Regarding the guy who should be training you - some people are just not very good at explaining things to others, and some are also very bad at delegating. You know how it is - it seems quicker just to do it yourself. If you're short of things to do, could you just look over his shoulder, watch what he does and ask questions?

You need a contract of employment and statement of particulars - the statement details the hours, salary, job title, place of work, any overtime, holidays, pension etc etc.

You also need a job description and a person specification - this way you can use it to tick of the areas of responsibility you need to cover and as a consequence to learn from your manager / colleague.

If you work in a hospital they should have all of these things but if they don't get one from an alternative hospital and insist on discussing it with your manager before the colleague goes on holiday.

Having said all of that - don't be unhappy - if the environment is not one that works for you - start looking for something else, its their loss.

Good Luck
