hello!
i am a student form austria. i met my girlfriend (she is from new zealand) during her stay in austria. now she is back in new zealand and i am trying to follow as soon as possible.
as you all know there is lots of things to overcome until i will finally be able to be together with her in new zealand!

i have got lots of questions right now, but no money at all to spend on an agency that could help. so i hope that maybe people here can help me!
well...
right now i am trying to get a visitors visa/permit that allows me to stay in new zealand for 9 months (NZIS1017), and then when i am in new zealand i want to try and get residency under partnership policy.
do u people think thats a good way?
because we already got lots of different suggestions by agents and the austrian consule. and with evry single one there is different obstacles (money!!!!)... and also it`s quite confusing, when u are dealing with beaurocracy for the first time!

i think that we already have a quite good overview for all the facts and things we have to do. but all the small details are pretty confusing.

if there is maybe someone that has experience with migrating under partnership policy it would be nice if you contacted me! or just answered :nice1

bye

Welcome to the forum :)

Not what the best way would be (maybe a student visa?), but bear in mind that the immigration people normally need to see that you've been living together for at least 12 years before they consider the application under the partnership policy.

Good luck,

Daniela

no i am 19 years old and studying history and english at university.
i never worked for more then 2 months in my holidays. so working holidays visa does sound strange to me.

also i found out that the 12 months are not absolutely necessary. it`s an individual thing from case to case.

thanks for the answer :)

Luckily the bit in bold isn't correct... or I'd be years off coming back to NZ with my OH :)

The 12 months is pretty firmly adheared to in terms of proof of relationship if you apply throught the London office. I know of people on the partnership route who have been given PR, but only had it activated after their partnership evidence matched the 12 months (ie, like 12 months since joint rental agreement, mortgage or bank account)

They need to make sure you're in a solid and committed relationship and aren't going to just break up as soon as you arrive.

A student visa would be good - but you'd have to pay international fees. Is there any chance your partner can go back to Austria for a year to give you a decent paper trail for NZIS to follow?

Just realised that you can't do a working holiday visa if you are from Austria, apologies for that (changed my first post quickly, but obviously not quickly enough :))

also i found out that the 12 months are not absolutely necessary. it`s an individual thing from case to case.

I have never heard that to be negotiable, I assumed it was pretty much a standard requirement. Even if you have heard of cases where they made exceptions, I'd be careful not to rely on an exception being made in any case and plan your future based on that.

I think a student visa is probably your easiest option, can you do a semester abroad type study thing?

Anyway, good luck with this :)

i absolutely can`t afford international fees! so the student visa option for me doesn`t work.

right now, i will get a visitors visa, and as soon as i am in new zealand i will marry !
then we have (hopefully) 9 months to gather evidence for our relationship.
it`s all quite complicated. as our relationship already started in last october, but as we are both young people we did never think about moving together, cause i still live with my parents and she lived with friends.

uuuhhhm
my main problem is time.
i want to get a ticket for 16 of october, i probably will have to buy it the first of june because it can only be reserved for three weeks.

my parents are up to support me financially, if my own savings aren`t sufficient. and if i have to leave new zealand they will also pay my ticket if i can`t pay it myself. how can i proove my parents financial support to the new zealand immigration service?

also i will try to find work in new zealand as soon as possible, but i don`t know how to get the work permit! because i think that u need a written invitation by a new zealand company.
do u know how long i will approximately have to wait for a nz working permit?

thanks for the fast answers!
