Our status changed to "decision successful" on thursday and on friday we received our ITA.
I've been checking our status on the immigration website daily so I didn't miss the date our application changed. When it changes it says for you to check your address on your EOI is correct so they can send the forms out....... a bit late given that we're the second people that have received our ITA's the day after the status change lol.
Now I'm starting to get really scared. If all went smoothly we now have the potential to be in NZ by Yule..... not that that's likely to happpen....... but you never know. It's never been about we hate Britain, sure there are things we'd like to see change but we do realise how lucky we are to live in this country with all the advantages it has offered us. For us it has been about job security given the IT market here is saturated and we've been unlucky with my hubbies jobs. I'm starting to worry that we'll regret moving to NZ, not so much because of family [we don't live near family] but because of the culture shock, not being able to nip to the nearest Boots or John Lewis etc. The exchange rate is awful at the mo. will we be able to bring enough money with us, will we be able to survive on hubbies wages, my biggie...... will I be able to get a job? We have just had a New Zealand Veterinary Nurse start with us and she says that UK Vet. Nurses are highly regarded in NZ..... but that doesn't mean I'll get a job out there!
Sorry for waffling , just needed to get it out.... think I'll go start a journal, to put all this stuff into.

Congratulations to you. You sound the same as me in March when ITA was received. We too worry about salaries but keep doing the research. Where abouts are you in Wales? We are not far from Wales

hi, just outside of swansea. It's weird....... all the research up until now hasn't prepared us for reality of being selected.

It is really scary when it all becomes a reality, but I'm sure you'll be fine. There's bound to be a bit of culture shock, but I think if you're prepared for it, it won't be so bad. And it does wear off fairly quickly, about 3 months or so for me. The exchange rate may well have improved a lot by Christmas, looking at it's history over the past 3 years or so, it goes up and down quite quickly really, so you may get a really good one by Christmas.
You'll never know if you don't try. Good luck with all the preparations.

Sounds like good material book - something we could all relate to for sure!
By the way, about bringing money over and the exchange rate, what you might want to consider is opening a foreign currency account here (which will likely pay better interest than back home), and then just convert over as needed, instead of one big transfer at a lousy exchange rate. Of course, not guarantee that the exchange rate won't get worse with time, instead of better ...
About job concerns, one of the first things new NZ uni-grads do (including vets and vet nurses), is move overseas. I don't think you'll have any problems finding a job here.
Congrats on decision successful!:clap

Firstly, congratulations on gaining decision successful. :raebanana
Secondly, depending on where you live, you will still be able to pop into your local store. OK so it won't be a John Lewis or a Boots but there are plenty of other good shops out there. I was pleasantly surprised at how many shops there are in and around Hamilton. So as long as you're moving to or close to one of the bigger cities I really don't think this will be a problem.
Thirdly, there may be a bit of a culture shock at first, even if you think you're prepared for it. For some people it's not as bad as others but as SamB has said, it should wear off pretty quickly if it happens.
Fourthly, I really don't think you'll have any kind of problem getting a job. I would just make sure that you get your qualifications assessed (you probably have to for your ITA anyway).
Hope this has helped in some small way and look forward to reading your progress. :nice1

Oooh, remember that feeling soooo well.......:yes
On the day my hubby and I received the ITA, we looked at each other and said 'My God - this is really happening isn't it'. Scary stuff.
We filled in the ITA with the thought that we may as well 'give it a go' and see if we get approved. We did get approved, we got an offer on the house without marketing it and the rest as they say is history.
You'll be fine - just take one step at a time at your own pace.
And when you get your PR granted, it's up to you when/if/how you use it !!

That's what I tell myself when I get into too much of a paddy....... we don't HAVE to go but at least we will have the option.
