Hi everyone,
I've just got a question on behalf of my mum and dad. They are moving to NZ next year and were hoping to adopt my sister once over there. I understand that they have to have PR for 3 years before they can start this process. My sister would like to go over at the same time as them (she is 25), but if she was to get a working holiday it would expire after 2 years so she would have to leave the country then for at least a year. Does anyone know of any other way round this. She would only qualify for 90 points on her EOI from what i've gathered with a job offer (30 for age, 50 for job offer and 10 fo rhaving parents in the country). Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

Hi, could your sister go over with them on a visitor's visa, or batter yet, the WHV, and get a job and change her visa to a work permit, then apply on her own? Just a thought, not sure if I have it right.

We thought about her getting a WHV and applying for PR after a year or so but I don't think she will have enough points to lodge her own EOI. Do you know if there is another way round this?
Thanks

What about study visa? Is that an option?

Thanks. That would be a suitable option because then she would be able to train (and gain qualifications) and get a job on the skills shortage list... I think now the only thing left to do is persuade her to go back to college and retrain - not sure how she's going to take the news though! :laugh

KatI'm thinking with the points she has now, combined with a job offer/work experience in NZ under 6 mo, she'd have enough points to get pulled. she might have to find a job that is accredited, is on the shortage list, or that they can't find a Kiwi to fill. Again, I may be missing a piece of the puzzle here, but I think that would work.

Thanks Ana. That sounds like a good idea.
The only other option I have thought of is her staying in the UK for another year or so then coming out on a WHV. If they time it right her parents could apply to adopt her when she's coming to the end of a WHV she will only have to leave the country for a few months - it would be a good time for her to do a bit of travelling round Oz.
I still think the hardest part of all this is going to be telling her what she needs to do - I think she's going into this thinking it will all be easy and she will have no problems!!

I would also check the age limit for the NZIS definition for a Dependant child thats over school age.
Also once a child has a child of their own - they are no longer classed as a dependant child (as we found with our daughter - she was on our application but at the end we had to exclude her because she was expecting Cole.)
