Perfect time to know more abour heating systems in New Zealand.

At the moment we have got two open fire places in the house and we really are looking for another way of heating our home. It is just to cold!!!!
As we have two fire places we would like to get more information from people who are using a woodburner or pelletburner.
What are are the differences between these two and what do I need to consider before I make up my mind.

We have a pellet fire which works fine for us. Apparently (correct me if I am wrong) pellet fires are more eco friendly than log burners and the council / government are trying to encourage people to convert from log burners to pellet fires. In fact, the person who lived in the house before us got a grant from the council to convert.
It is very easy to use and takes just a few minutes to clean each day. There is no smell with the fire and it sits neatly in the corner of the room.
I cannot compare with other fires though as I have no experience of log burners or heat pumps.
Hope this helps
Julie

According to this Southland govt. pdf page (http://www.es.govt.nz/Documents/Environmental%20Information/Brochures/Healthy%20Homes%20Flyer.pdf) the comparisons are as follows:

Wood burner: $1500-6000 to install; costs 5.0-7.5 cents per kW hour, and runs at 55-75% efficiency.

Pellet burner: $2500-5000 to install; costs 7.4-9.1 cents per kW hour, and runs at 75-92% efficiency.
