Hello Folks, have finally got around to filling in the ole EOI and although it seems user friedly I am a little confused in some areas and thought I'd turn to you guys for help!!

1. How far along the family tree is expected? Do I really have to put long lost uncles and half sisters on? Or just the immediate family ( those who aren't coming with us?)
2. Where do i get my taxation and social security number from- dum I know ?

Much appreciated, and thanks to all who have already posted -its an excellent resource and we hope to add to it from the other side !!

Hi Ros,
It was my understanding that you only list the family who are coming with you.
I hope thats right, because thats what we did.
You've got me worried now.

You should put down any immediate family who are not coming with you.

From what I remember, if you later want to sponser other members of your family over to NZ then you must have put them on your EOI.

So to put it another way, put down all those in your family that you may want to sponser in the future.

Your social security number is just your National Insurance number and i think that's what we put in for the taxation number too.

Ian is quite correct in that you put down your immediate family only, even if they're not coming with you. This is in case they decide in a couple of years time to follow you, you can then sponsor them.

Hope that's answered your questions.

Yes, but don't panic if you haven't done this.

You can amend it when you get your ITA - just remember to make a note of any changes in the section provided.

As far as the tax/social security number is concerned , we just put down our NI numbers.

Don't know if we did it the same as others or not, but NZIS seemed satisfied - we got our PR last year and have been living in NZ for the last 8 months!!

Yep, we used our N/I number for both of those fields.

We put down immediate family i.e. Mum, Dad, Brothers, Sisters..... so that should any of them wish to come to NZ at a later date it would make the process easier.

We've just received our ITA and they have allowed space for you to add other family members if you've forgotten anyone [specifically children] but there is a sheet where you can notify them of amendments too.

There is a separate number for tax purposes. If you phone your tax office (PAYE or self-employed) they will tell you what you tax number is.
