Hi everyone,
I am new to this site, and would like info on bringing adult children over with us they are over 25 but would like to find jobs and apply for residency when they get there. My husband and I have completed our EOI and have submitted it and are waiting for it to go into the pool. This is early days for us and no doubt have millions of questions to ask. My son is going through the EOI process himself and is wondering if we were to be granted PR do we have to be living in NZ before he can claim the points for us being NZ residents.

I'm sure someone who knows more than me will say if I'm wrong, but if your son is applying through the SMC, the way I read it is that the extra points are awarded for having close family already in New Zealand.

Your visa is only activated when you come through customs and they stamp your passport - the ACTUAL Visa is the Stamp, so say you got your blue stickers in January - but landed in Auckland on the 2nd June 2006, you would have had PR for Just 1 year and 2 weeks - Not 1 Year and 5 mths.

and I think you may have had to have been a resident for 3 years also, but I don't take my word for it - if you search on the NZIS website it should have the details on there.

good luck

Kat

Hi there,
I am currenlty going through a similiar process but am adopting my 15year old brother from South Africa. My OH and I are residents and have been living here for 9-10months now. A very very useful link to visit is http://www.cyf.govt.nz/1647.htm. This has heaps of information and you are able to get prompt replies from the advisers online.
hope it all works out. all the best.

I enquired about this for my adult daughter and was told I would have to be in NZ as PR for 3 years. the situation Sue refers to is the adoption of a child which is think follows a different path and set of rules than adopting/sponsoring an adult relative to join you in NZ.
