I work with someone, who is going back to the UK, and she has very kindly let me know the costs of shipping back the family’s (the four of them) belongings, so that I can share it with you.
There are lots of different ways to calculate the costs and it is cheaper to store the container in NZ and then call for it (it takes around 6 weeks apparently) rather than ship it over and store it in the UK.
In her family’s case, the cost of shipping back a 20ft container to the UK is $9,300, plus insurance at 3.5%. They are also shipping back their car at a cost of $4,300 plus insurance at 2.5% (separately so it arrives earlier) and it is estimated that the total shipping costs will be approximately $14,500 including insurance.
If they were to ship everything together in one 40ft container, then it would cost them $15,000 plus insurance.
They are using NZ Van Lines as they shipped with them out here and did not have any problem with them at all. Their partner in the UK is PSS. However, as you’ll be aware, there are lots of others.
Also, to fly the family back to the UK, one way, it is costing them $9,000 which includes one way flights with Air New Zealand, via LA and a 6 night stay in Anaheim (Staybridge Suites), four 3 day tickets for Disney Land/California Adventure Park and airport transfers.
