Can anyone recommend a good moving company from the USA to NZ?

are you shipping from Alaska?
we used Headway International from Victoria, Canada, and they say they can ship from anywhere to anywhere. they were excellent and very helpful, the guy that came to give us the quote gave us lots of ideas to save money. (for instance you pay for 50 cu feet, whether you have that much or not so take advantage of that, after that it goes up incrementally). I'm not sure how they would connect with you in Alaska, but my guess is they would have someone local who would handle you from there to Vancouver or Seattle.

Hi & welcome to the forum!

We had pretty good luck using Crown moving from California. Take a look at these threads for some info. on US to NZ shipping:

For the price and the ability to insure a self pack we liked Global Ocean Freight (http://www.global-oc.com/). We paid $7070 USD in early 2006 for a 40ft container out of Virginia.

(We actually signed with Trans Global Moving (http://www.transglobalmoving.com/), but they seemed to handle the contract part of it, and after that we dealt mainly with GOF. There may be a benefit to going straight to GOF, but I'm not sure.)

We've gotten five quotes back from Rainier, Crown, Steven, Southern Winds and Sterling. Best quote came from Rainier for a door-to-door 40 foot container. Rainier also has good reviews on this site and movingscam.com.

What would be "the best" quote?
Could you please share with us?

Thanks

Thanks for all the great info!! Good recommendtions are so helpful when moving.
We won't have very much to move, maybe 1000 lbs. Do you know if they do something smaller than a 40 ft container? There is no way we would even come close to filling that.
Thanks again!

We used Rainier for part of a container. They were good, though it took about 3 months to transport from NJ. I think this was because it wasn't a full container. Just check who they use locally.

Yup, you could get a 20ft or a partial, like Howie mentioned. Our best quote so far was through a company using Rainier as transport.

Do you know if they do something smaller than a 40 ft container? The 20ft container quote from Trans Global/GOF was $6000 in early '06 from VA to Welly door to door. That was self pack and before any insurance fees.

I am planning on using Allied International... :)

Can anyone recommend a good moving company from the USA to NZ?

The best quote came from Rainier: $10,425 for a 40ft containter to either Auckland or Wellington with an additional $1,750 for faster delivery. The other ranged in between $11,530 - $14,597. This is for door-to-door with the movers doing all the packing.

I had a HORRIBLE experience with Allied out of Salt Lake City UT. And frankly it wasn't just the US side. I was unimpressed with them here in Auckland as well. I would NOT use them EVER again.

Hi Newbe1,

All the information on this thread is good. But go to Movingscam.com anyway and ask your questions about insurance, containers, self-packing and be sure to mention the mover(s) you are considering. That forum is a BIG help in deciphering the moving industry- there are actual moving industry people there who will actually help you. It was amazing to me- learned heaps more than I wanted to but in the end I can say I feel a lot less stressed about the whole moving process.

Good luck.
