I was looking at MattA's post about the cheapest medicals in Sussex.

http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11704

I thought it would be useful if everyone could post how much they paid for their medicals so people can compare in the style of Which/Consumer's Association where the best deals are being offered and what a reasonble cost is (and what a rip-off cost is).

So how much did you pay? :nice1

best we've found is £250 per adult for all 3 (radiographs/bloods and medicals)

Mine were about £350 just for me (for all the tests and x-rays), but I had them done in Harley Street as it was closest to where I live. I could probably have got them cheaper if I had travelled a bit further.

Our medicals cost us around £800 all in (2 adults, 2 kids, no bloods or chest xrays for the kids)

Our medicals cost £240 per adult and £80 per child - we used a normal GP practice in Dundee listed by the NZI. This included chest xray which had to be done at a private hospital in Dundee.

£300 for everything for one adult in London. When I called, I got an appt for two days later.

The doctor took about 15 seconds, cracked two jokes and sent me on my way. I went back two weeks later to pick up the results, that took 5 seconds and no jokes.

I guess this is indeed pretty easy money for them!

Medicals adults:£ 115, medicals children £ 60.
X-rays: £ 84
Blood tests: £ 92
So for all of us (two parents, two small children) it was about £ 700.
That was in Tavistock, Devon. Very friendly, took about 10 days to get the results.

And I thought than mine was expensive. :o
Euro 236 for everything. It was done by a very efficient and friendly panel Doctor in Hannover.

Mine is the same as the Bartons - £700 for 2 adults and 2 children, we went to Tavistock too, nearest place to Cornwall. The doctor clearly comes out of retirement to do these, and it must be a nice little add-on to his pension.

£40 each for adults x-rays
£235 each per adult for medical
£65 for child medical
£35 for extra blood tests needed for me
Total £650.00

X-rays done in a morning, went back 3 days later to collect them
Medicals/blood test results back in under a week.

This was in West London

Time spent with GP was VERY little can't help thinking its a nice little money spinner for them as they know you will probably go the approved panel doctor nearest to your home! :roll

I live in Aberdeen and the cheapest xray I could find was £100. Medical is going to cost £100 also, but this doesn't include blood test. I asked for a ball-park figure but they couldn't give me one! Surely they know how much a flippin' blood test is going to cost?!?!?! grrrrrrr. I have to wait another two weeks for a doctors' appointment........

£260 one-off cost for an adult at the Cromwell Hospital, Kensington (private hospital - marble floors, leather sofas in the waiting area, very posh!).

No waiting lists, 25 mins with the doc, 5 mins with the radiologist, had to pop in a week later to collect the results (they will courier them to you for £10 though)

If you're in London I recommend these guys :)

Yup, that's where I went, as well. I don't even think I spent 25 minutes with the doctor, it was really quick!

I got the appointment straight away, too. The radiology appt was so quick that I felt I hardly had time to get dressed again. But I'll spare you the embarrassing episode that followed involving a bra, a handbag, and paying for a coffee at Starbucks...

Hi - found the list of approved doctors on the immigration nz site. Its worth phoning a few - we have a few nearby (though in different counties) and if we travel a little further (15 mins) from Gloucestershire to Avon we save 100 quid in total. With all the other fees needed every penny counts!

Just been through the list of panel doctors getting quotes for our medicals. I had budgeted for about £250 each as that seemed to be the going rate. Boy was I surprised. I contacted one about 15 miles away and was quoted £102 for the medical, £60 for the x-ray and up to £300 for the blood tests. All done in different places and weeks apart. Another charged £300 for the medical & £52 for the xray. Another charged £317 all in. I eventually contacted Cromwell Hospital, Kensington after reading some threads on here and they quoted me £260 inclusive and they did weekend appointments. Even with the train fare it is still way cheaper than the others. So have booled them for 29th March - hoping we will be sent an ITA :D

Yet again this forum is worth it's weight in virtual gold!!

Had just booked our medicals and xrays with the only Hull listed Panel Doctors' and received their prices today!:wah

Adult Medical £120 (child £100)
Chest Xray £80
Phlebotomy £20
Blood tests
Liver Function £89
Serum Creatnine £43
Hepatitus B £92

VDRL £57
Full blood count £56

Grand total £634 per adult and £100 each for 2 kids

Needless to say we shall be shopping around and will travel!! LOL

We had medicals with Dr Chapman at Gatwick we can confirm that he’s a really nice old boy, highly recommended.
£235 each (medical, X-ray & bloods no vat)
Dr Chapman Aero-medical centre 0845 070 0733 only works Tuesdays & Thursdays, but currently has no waiting list.
If you arrived at Gatwick airport British rail, or national express coach station I’m pretty sure it would be under a tenner in a taxi.
Hope that helps :nice1

By chance I just found our invoice for our medicals earlier today whilst I was sorting through some of the mountain of paperwork we seem to have accumulated. We saw Dr Tallant at Brookdale Medical Centre, Horley (near Gatwick) and paid £262 per adult for the medical, bloods & xrays. Our daughter (13 at the time was cheaper, no bloods needed) but I seem to have lost the invoice for her. He took his time a bit, but I felt that he was being thorough rather than dragging it out, and we went to the hospital next door for our x-rays. The paperwork was posted back to us in less than a week.

Just had ours done in Sheffield, £970 for all medicals, bloods and xrays, 3 adults and 2 children.

Had to go to a separate private hospital for the xrays first, v. quick and professional, then on to the doctors, looked a bit seedy [peeling paint] from the outside but very friendly, efficient and relaxed staff and doctors inside.

It took us all about 4 hours from start to finish, bring a book!
This saved us well over £1000 compared to the Hull private hospital, so shop around!

From the US...

One place told me $500 per adult for everything (physical, xray, blood and urine tests, paperwork).
Another says $300. I think they weren't quite as detailed in their quote so I'm expecting it to cost more.
These are supposedly the cheapest places in town.

Dr Chapman at Aero Medical had been mentioned in this thread and elsewhere already. I would recommend them highly. He takes his time and attends to details, rather than shuffling raw data onto paper. We also like the private hospital next door doing the X-ray too.

Bear in mind, the medical is likely to be read without context by your case officer.

We had a mishaps (our fault) that needed to go back. The practice staff were brilliant. They were sympathetic and reacted promptly in organising to resolve. They did not even charge us for the additional effort they put in despite being told in advance that we would be.

That is what I call "service".

Another advantage is the practice being almost next to Gatwick airport. Very convenient location.

Ouch! I think half the reason Dr Down is cheap is that he does the medicals in a little office in his house, rather than a swanky well-staffed practice. The whole thing is just a quick, easy money-earner for him in his retirement (and to make things even better, he even knew my oncologist!).

He said he'd even had a couple from South Wales come down for their medical (!!!), tying it in with a holiday. Not a bad plan, considering some of the prices on this thread

now, i feel well & truly ripped off. I can't recall exact amounts, but it was just under €500 for me - I think it was €150 for the medical & about €330 for the x-ray & the blood tests. This was in Dublin.

Just had my medicals done, OH is there right now.

For one person the medical was 250 €, x-ray 89 € and office fee 10 €.
Tomorrow 398.80 € for the blood tests (extended) and again office fee 10 €.

I'll probably need to fork another 100-200 € for a statement from my own internal medicin doctor and to meet the medicals doctor again. The prices really suck because they're set to be covered by insurance or partially covered by public health care.

He said that NZ does the most extensive medical check he is aware of (he does them for other countries as well). He also said that a few of the tests are old-fashioned and not very common any longer. He usually works with children so I got my fair share of lifestyle advice as well ;-) His reasoning for the extensive checks was that you really, really need to want to go to NZ..

There's only one doctor approved in our capital area so no alternatives.

Wow, they're really ripping us off with the ~1600 eur total for two. And no choice for a doctor, and due the 24-hour urine collecting one cannot even easily use another doctor elsewhere in the country.

We actually had to do both, no special medical conditions. The pee sample was for something basic and the 24-hour thing is for creatine clearance test.

The doctor did mention something about a recent change in the tests but I don't remember the details. Every nurse and doctor we have dealt with have been wondering the whole medical check.. it's much easier to get a medical insurance that covers everything.

But I don't think you need to do that unless your BMI is over 30 or you are over the waist measurements.

Ah well, you've paid it, you've had it done and you're alive to tell the tale, so not worth worrying about now.

I've been doing a little research here myself for our pending Meds. Prices are based on two adults, but are given for one adult.

Yeovil.
Radiology Clinic Group. (XRay) £?? (Didn't bother once I'd got costs for Meds!)
Penn Hill Surgery (Meds) £325.00

Gloucester.
Glos. Royal Hosp. (XRay) £65.00
Hadwen Med. Prac. (Meds) £143.75 + £120.75 Bloods = £264.50

Bristol.
Bristol MusculoSkeletal Imaging (XRay) £55.00
Southville Surgery (Meds) £127.00 + £110.00 Bloods = £237.00

Bath.
Bath Clinic (XRay) £95.00
Pulteney Practice (Meds + Bloods) £180.00

So, for us at least, X-Ray's at Bristol Musculoskeletal Imaging (£55) and Meds and Bloods at Bath Pulteney Practice (£180) for total £235 per adult.
