Hi there,

Been lurking for well over a year now - just observing as have had nothing of importance to say.... Until now...!

We're very serious about making the move in autumn '09, and have planned our honeymoon next year (getting married in April) as a recce in order to get a feel for all things NZ... As it's our honeymoon, would welcome any suggestions of anything extra special that I could arrange for my bride to be...? Any help would be greatly appreciated.... We're planning three weeks, and concentrating on the North Island, as we think we'd like to settle initially in Wellington. I know this may not be the right place for this request but just thought I'd throw it in, before I head to the activities sections and beg of your knowledge there...

This place seems to be a goldmine of info, although I often find myself wandering down the rabbit-hole of various threads and forgetting what it was I originally came to investigate!

Anyway, rambling now, so will shut up :D

ooh.. how wonderful and welcome to the forum.

We also spent our honeymoon in NZ , and April will/should be a wonderful time to be here. In April 05,We had bright sunny days and lovely crisp autumn evenings with log fires/bottles of red wine.

We also tacked on some time in fiji which I very strongly recommend, but we had a little bit more time - three months if I fess up, which we split between NZ and OZ.

As for special things, depends on your bride 2 be?! would she be more wowed by a night in a designer romantic lodge or jetboating /dolphin swimming somewhere...does she like her creature comforts or is she at one with nature ?

Also how/with whom are you flying out ? just a thought, but we stayed in Raffles on our last night when we stopped over in Singapore (I wince to think what I could buy with the NZD, but we were earning GBP then and it was a once in a lifetime), and it was an amazing way to finish our honeymoon - they also spoilt us rotton, even though we were only there for one night.....flowers on the bed, complimentary chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecake decorated with "Happy Honeymoon Mr & Mrs and our surname"

Either way - congratulations and welcome...

Hi Pip - thanks for your reply... My OH's used to roughing it, as she sometimes goes to work in India for long periods (voluntary nursing) but she definitely appreciates the creature comforts as well... I had a look at Raffles, and I think it's out of our budget at the moment... I like the idea of stopping off on the way back though, so will investigate further. We had looked at spending some time in the Cook Islands, but are a bit unsure now as think it might be a bit hectic with all the travelling we have to do. We're getting married on Colonsay, which is a small island off the west coast of Scotland - so from leaving Birmingham, I think we end up travelling for the best part of a week before finally ending up in Auckland, so Cook Islands might be a bit much... .However, time's on our side and nothing's cast in stone yet... :-)

I'm wondering if there's some classy joints to stay in or around Rotorua, Napier or Palmerston as we journey southwards to Wellington? Any ideas folks?

Thanks again for the suggestion Pip! :D

Welcome guys, lots of places to see and do things, spoilt for choice really.

Singapore is a great stopover, can fully recommend it.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the wedding plans and then your future.

I don't envy you planning a future in another country while planning your wedding.

I don't envy you planning a future in another country while planning your wedding.

I dunno - I think combining your NZ discovery adventure with your wedding is an excellent way to ease what can be tedious, overblown, stressful wedding details. This way you're focusing on the substance of your relationship instead of only the ceremonial trappings :) And I'm sure you're going to have an amazing time! Wish I could make a few useful suggestions, but looks like you're getting plenty of those anyway. Best of luck and congratulations to you both :cheers

Well, a lurker, I don't know. Welcome on board now though. :D

We spent our honeymoon in NZ in Oct 2003, and we're know out here. We're visiting the UK (flying out today, aaaggggghhhhh) and the OH's family is from Halesowen, so we'll be around there and B'ham from Wednesday next week.

If you would like to meet up and pick our brains (shouldn't take long), drop us a pm, although we'll have limited access to the forum, so if we don't reply straight away, it isn't anything personal... :nice1
