Just curious as I've been waiting over 2 months after sending in my 'leaving the UK' tax form:roll

I sent it in April as soon as I had the info, and the money was in my account by the end of May...

give them a chase up if I were you.

I sent in a claim at the beginning of May for the work I'd completeddin the UK in the current tax year (i.e. for April 2007) and haven't received anything yet.

Jub Jub, I assume your claim was for tax paid in the previous tax year (i.e. 2006/2007) so a claim with the info from your P60 received in April should go through quite quickly as, obviously, you can't possibly earn any further taxable income for a previous year.

I'm not entirely certain whether I have to wait until next April (i.e. end of current tax year) to get my refund, but I don't think so as it should be reflected in the P45 they send back for use in the unlikely event that I receive any taxable income in the rest of this tax year (given I'm now in NZ the chances are remote), although I don't expect the taxman to be overly speedy.

So, Suzer, I think what I'm saying is if your claim was for tax paid before 4th April 2007 then, yes, chase them you should have it. If it's for tax paid since 4th April 2007 then I would expect it to take a little while, but I would hope it would be with you (and mine with me) within another month at the most.

Hope that all makes sense. It does to me, but I have been told on many an occasion that my brain works differently to your average man on the street. Not that I'm on the street, I'm in a house. The dining area to be precise.

oooh, good thread.. exactly what I'd been wondering. I sent ours off (to reclaim for Feb/Mar 07) and posted it in mid april and have heard nothing yet, so its been just over two months.

I contacted the overseas tax dept who are dealing with our tax exemption for non resident landlords form, but they told me they don't deal with this and I need to talk to the relevant tax office, who of course don't have an e-mail address and I keep forgetting to phone them)

Maybe it depends on the different branch offices ?

Mine was simple cos it was just tax paid on interest and we are already registered as non residents.

I cant remember how long it took for wages tax to come back... although just checked my MS money thingy and it came back to the bank in the August after i applied in the May.

Crikey, I put in a claim last August to claim back tax for the last couple of years and I'm still awaiting the cheque.

Last time I spoke to them in January, they said that they hadn't got to my letter from November (they were three months behind). And I'm still chasing...

And they call us customers. Perhaps I should have taken my custom elsewhere...

and just to highlight the UK inland revenue inefficiencies, - we submitted our NZ tax forms a couple of weeks ago and found that tax credits had been paid into our bank accounts this morning! - talk about speedy

still nothing from the UK inland revenue of course!

We sent off our forms as soon as we had our p45's and received our rebates within a few weeks.

I sent off the form for claiming tax back on savings 4 weeks ago and for some strange reason they given us more tax back from our earnings but nothing in connection with the tax back on interest. They did send me another from to claim back tax though :roll

I think I'll just have to call them when I go back to the UK in a couple of weeks

had to spend last night on hold to UK tax office because the inept so and so's had sent yet another form for us to fill in (left UK 1yr+) they wouldn't deal with Rachel - as shes not me, so I had to ring - they won't deal with you without your NI no so DONT forget it - it took me 4 mins to find some paperwork with it on and now I have to wait for another form -

Luckily I deliberately had my last working day to be 31st March and Rob finished in Feb 06 so we were able to finish the tax year neatly. which is why I spent a whole afternoon in a tax office filling in every form imaginable for leaving the country - BUT NO Child tax credit still had us as living in the UK with 3 kids - I mean - I am not eligible for Child tax credit for Rachel - shes 21 and has her own child -she had a heck of trouble trying to get it for Cole - as they had her down as still being a child on our claim??????????????

hopefully I will never have to deal with them again:exit

Well I finally got through to our UK tax office a couple of weeks ago, (we submitted our forms in April). They told me that they had received my form, that I was due a rebate , although didn't tell me how much, and that as I was now an overseas resident, they were passing my file to the overseas resident department to deal with.

Nothing since then.. but at least the wheels are in motion, and they admit they've got the paperwork - so thats something - right!

We spoke to tax office a couple of weeks ago as wondering why refund not happened. Apparently they are about 3 months behind with processing claims at the moment.:(
